First things first - CAUTION! I took my Toob 10 on a gig last night and laid the wooden stand down on a table while packing up. Somebody walked off with it while I was putting my guitar away and having a diet Coke with the crew!! I guess it just looked like a cool piece of wood. Why did I remove the stand, you ask? I think the pointed ends will wear a hole in the bag (or at least the lining) over time, so I keep it in the front pouch on my guitar gig bag. Now I'm trying to figure out how to make another stand and will post what I come up with. But I hope a word to the wise is sufficient - don't leave anything sitting out at a gig without watching it closely. Now I wouldn't even chance losing the wire stand for a Metro by leaving it loose and unattended.

My drummer stupidly put his leather stick bag on the bar a few months ago while he was having a beer after we played - and he leaves his wallet and keys in it for reasons none of us can understand. A patron grabbed it and ran out the door - the club has full video surveillance, so the local police actually knew who she was and got her. But he had a long and sleepless night.

But now for the good news. I described insulated lunch bags in someone's earlier thread about bags for Metros. I'd just found and ordered a Lifewit Large Lunch Bag 24-Can (15L) Insulated Lunch Box Soft Cooler that looked perfect in size, shape, and quality. .My bargain bag arrived and confirmed that I do have an eye for value! It's absolutely perfect for a Metro with a mounted Superblock. The power supply and cords fit in the front zippered pouch, and there are elastic mesh end pockets for extra cables etc. I got mine for $17 on an Amazon Christmas flash sale - they're now a whopping $20! I can't imagine a better gig bag for a Metro, and they have larger sizes that look like they'd hold a 10 or 12 just as well.

filling in for you those few weeks when his bag got stolen the thing I couldn't understand is when I saw him the next week he said he didn't want to press charges after the police identified the thieves. Jamey and I were scratching our heads on that one.

I was born and bred in Philly and still have family there, but reading a thread like this makes me not want to do any gigs there.

Ouch! What's a dignified person like you doing in places like that in the first place? Maybe someone spotted the supermagnet that's part of the wooden leg assembly. Not exactly a warranty case, but I'll send you a new stand asap. This Forum deserves it.

    Cheers,

    Markku

Frankly, I think that all that banging drummers do has the same long term effect on a brain as playing football

Wow - that's a generous offer, Markku. But it's my own fault and I'm happy to pay for it. I'll email you - you finally lifted Toob out of the red, and I don't want to be the guy who pushed it under again! I've been thinking about how to make something with rounded feet instead of sharp corners, so it'll live peacefully with its gig bag. Just what you needed - another rise in the cost of goods sold

Probably true, but I know that's what did in my hearing, especially standing next to the cymbals!

How about putting rubber feet over the pointy ends, assuming no sound vibrations are to be transmitted to the podium? What's their diameter? Walkstool sell heavy-duty replacement feet for their tripod stools what might fit the bill?

Gigging 101: one band member is always present at the stage to prevent thieves and stage/mic crashers. It amazes me how many guys leave the bandstand unattended at set break. Members of other bands on the bill aren't to be entrusted with that job, they are usually the ones most likely to steal gear. Same goes for club staff. The club owner is usually the biggest scumbag in a given establishment. Work with those things in mind.

Gigging 101: mics, pedals, and other small items are the first thing to pack away after the show as they are the easiest items to grab and conceal.

I never press charges on thieves either. I could spend my time better pissing up a rope, washing my hair, or registering to vote. I don't like bankers, doctors, laywers, politicians, judges, accountants, school teachers, or cops so I avoid all interactions when possible. The stench of government and mayonnaise.

I been considering doing videos about these gig basics it would probably draw a lot of views.

/methinks you'd have to make a police declaration to be able to file an insurance claim for stolen property. I'd not consider that a (complete) waste of my time...

In my case I am the only insurance. One man tends to the stage if the other guys want to smoke rope in the engine room or mingle with the crowd. It's easier and cheaper than pressing charges or filing insurance claims.

With the OP's lost leg, we're talking of a $20 damage. Not a police case. How many times have we left something at the battlefield? I once called a restaurant about a lost cable. They said there was none, but somebody had left a sombrero. Turned out it was our trumpetist's sordino.

That's what they'd like us to believe, undoubtedly...

A theft is a theft, and not to be confounded with forgetting something yourself. But maybe gigs pay a lot better in the US than I would have guessed

The stand is just a nicely shaped and finished section of flat wood sheet with a concave top to accept, lift, and support the bottom of the “cabinet”. There are no legs per se, so there’s nothing on which to put tips. I’m going to try putting heavy duty car door edge molding on the short runs at both ends of the bottom of the stand.

I’d have posted a picture, but I don’t have the piece In question . Maybe whoever took it thought it was a boomerang.

    Here’s a picture from the Toob.fi website:

I’d just put a washcloth, small towel, microfiber cloth or even a piece of bubble wrap in there.

I’m currently using a thick gel wrist rest sold for use with computer keyboards. Until I got my “fancy” wedge, I used the gel pad to prop up the front of my combo amps.

I was talking about putting something in the bag if you’re worried about the leg damaging it.

The stand pulls off easily. So I started keeping it in the big pocket of my guitar gig bag when I realized the potential for damage to the carry bags I use for the Toob. That’s how it grew legs - I’d taken it off and put it on a table next to the band’s space, planning to stick it back in the bag when I finished packing up.

As for the gel pad, I have either a wrist rest or an old mouse pad in each of my small speaker bags to elevate speaker cab fronts if needed. I tried leaving a wrist rest under the stand on the Toob 10 in the bag, and it does keep the stand ends from rubbing the inside of the bag. But this lifts the front even more inside the bag and makes the bag very tight on the Superblock sitting on top. Taking the stand off is so easy that I’d much rather do that and leave the pad in one of the accessory pouches on the bag. I just have to remember to put the stand away as soon as I take it off - the beer can wait for me!

RJVB, Markku’s stand is beautifully designed and made, and there’s a tiny magnet (neo, I assume) in a coupling that aligns and secures it. When we were still in our house and I had my shop, I could have made something similar. But now that we’re in an apartment, I’d be cutting the wood with a coping saw and shaping every edge and contour by hand. Matching the radius of the top to that of the Toob’s tube would be imperfect at best, and it’d be far more work to make a good looking one than it’s worth to me. I’d do it myself if necessary, but like the man said…..

I still can't believe someone walked off with something like that, which has no apparent use other than what it was intended for. People are strange.

It’s also possible that a waitress was cleaning up and just tossed it. Of course, the response I got when asking the staff was predictable….

As this was a place I hadn’t played at since before Covid, none of the staff or management I knew was still there. It’s a very nice place, but I haven’t been a regular there for years. So my own carelessness taught me a lesson. I should have known better.

I learned a long time ago when me and my pop were out hunting and someone smashed the car window on his junk toyota to steal a junk cooler and a junk pair of sorel boots; people will steal ANYTHING. There are people with the mental disease of kleptomania out there. I knew a guy who, even with a thousand or more dollars in cash in his pocket, would steal cheap $5 novels or magazines. I witnessed it first hand and confronted him. "It's no big deal" was his reply. I could only shake my head. It's the thrill, not the score, for some people.

Maybe the perp (pardon, alleged perp ) has a Toob too.

Or (one can dream/hope ) one of those jet/blower space heaters
