Armrest AND a belly cut? These will be hard to resist.

I like that headstock. The string pull looks perfectly straight.

    Hi Rich.

Will do. We have the first batch in production, but there's still a couple of small bottlenecks in the process so it will be a bit before all is running smoothly. Hopefully end of summer we will be ready to roll some guitars out.

The S14 checks all of your boxes above.

    Chris,
Thank you for the response. Additionally, my preference is a single neck pickup and an ebony fretboard. Is customization an option?

No, sorry. We won't be doing custom orders, but there will be some variety in what we roll out - a core set plus occasional "specialty" runs. A single pickup version will likely be in the mix, but at this early stage it's hard to say when that would happen.

I noticed a couple of differences in the body for the prototype. I could be wrong as my knowledge of everything built in the past is basically zero other than ordering one in the past, then unfortunately sold it.

The upper bout on the high side appears to differ. Also the cut or scarf at the neck heel.

Is placing an order or deposit possible in the near future?

What is the clear finish on the prototype? I believe Jim used catalized polyurethane. BTW Love the staining for the wood. My first choice!

any ballpark price? Did you say it was chambered? This looks like the perfect instrument for me.

I'll leave most of the answers to Chris since he's the one who has to live with the consequence but as for the chambering, the body is 2" thick and there's a block under the bridge that about an additional inch. The rest has been almost completely hollowed out. Total weight is a little over 6 lbs.

let me know if you need a beta tester. I'm having spinal surgery in May so my days of playing heavy guitars is over.

When we changed the depth of the body, it required some updates to the neck pocket area to get the curves to flow together seamlessly. Our goal was to make the various complex curves come together in a visually pleasing way and make it very comfortable for those who play up in that area. Took a few prototypes to get it right, but I think we achieved what we were going for.

The upper bout didn't change significantly - just scaling to the new size. Is there something specifically you noticed?

For now, our plan is to produce batches that (hopefully) anticipate and accommodate most needs and desires, and make those guitars available when completed. In this post-Covid environment, with supply chains being so stressed, it is too risky to promise delivery dates (or even delivery ranges). Perhaps over time as things (hopefully) settle out, we can be more confident in production schedules and start looking at custom orders. But for now we want to be conservative and only sell guitars as we complete them so that we are not subjecting anyone to undue wait times.

Having said that, we are actively working on developing redundant processes and capabilities that will smooth out some of those supply chain issues. Again, hopefully.

It is a poly finish, which is our standard. We may do an occasional one-off special-edition guitar with, say, a nitro finish, but poly will be the norm.

We'll likely standardize on 2-3 transparent colors, with 2-3 burst styles (or no burst), and an occasional solid color.

We haven't decided on final pricing yet.

I don't think I would call it "chambered" - it is completely hollow except for the small block under the bridge and the area around the neck pocket.

And yes - it IS the perfect instrument for you Jack.

We are tentatively planning to use Jim's previous approach of sending around one of the guitars so folks can test drive it and give us feedback. We will formalize that process (who, how, when) in the near future.

Looking at the photographs of the Gosling for sale on reverb, the upper bout on the high side looks like a 335 type curvature. For the lack of other words a larger "horn" shape.

Where as curvature on the prototype appears wider, more open, sweeping, tapering to a point.

    Jack,
Best of luck with your surgery. I could be wrong but I recall a similar issue in the past for you.

Ah, I see. All of the Soloways currently available on Reverb are a different model than the S14. The S14 is based on Jim's original S15 model. We plan to offer the S15 again at some point. We might do another model (like the Contour T), but we have some additional ideas for the S14 and S15 that we want to explore first.
