A cool speaker accessory (audible covers)?

I was at a large Shakespeare in the park performance tonight, and I couldn't help but notice that the pa speakers were completely covered, but they still sounded crystal clear, the sound going right through the cover. Is this something new, or have I been living in a cave? I'll post a few pictures tomorrow.

They’re probably acoustically transparent waterproof covers like these.

I know they’ve been around for at least 15 years or so. I think the company that started it was UnderCover, who still make them today.
