My first electric archtop was an Ibanez Af75. My wife said "You've really improved since you got that guitar!" 'Nuff said...

Seriously good guitar that doesn't break the bank. Same is true of the AFJ85, which I also had.

So hard to imagine why this totally exhilerating topic has been dormant for almost nine years!!

I have the smaller brother, the AG75 for like 15 + years and I still like it … even after getting a GB10 (the real McCoy) lately. The quality is way above the price point IMHO. I think the AF75 will give you a lot of joy for years to come.

Received it less than an hour ago. Much smaller than I expected, knowing that it would be small anyway but still pretty fat sound. The slinky's don't cut it so I have a set of half round 11s on the way. An SD 59 or jazz or aph may be next if that isn't enough. Fun fun.

Oddly enough I did the same thing. I got a set of Thomastik's (12s) to put on as well. These Ibanez's are so cheap I didn't see a reason not to pick one up from my local store. It seemed resonant enough and had the tones I was looking for (my other guitars are a MIJ 335 and a 57RI Strat).
I figure if I end up playing it enough to warranty an upgrade, maybe I'll get a Heritage 525 at that point. For now, I'm content and will let you know my impression once I get it set up. I've never played with flatwounds before so this should be interesting.

If you haven't owned an SD "jazz" pup you should know that SD by their own admission says the "jazz" pup is bright. If that's not what you're looking for the 59 is likely a better choice.
