In 2017 I bought a Gibson 59 RI ES-175 (A great guitar) and it came with the stupidly heavy reissue case (These were made somewhere in Central America, I believe). 5 years later I have noticed some green ink bleeding through the tolex. (This guitar case has never left my house since buying it, I use a gig bag) Has anyone else had this issue?

Here is a picture of what I am talking about:

It almost looks like writing on the wood that reacted w the glue, maybe magic marker?
To answer your question, never seen it before

I have never seen this before either. I guess the case maker south of the border figured that they could use less than perfect wood and nobody would know as it was going to be covered by the tolex? Now we all know.

I don't think the wood has anything to do w the bleeding, more likely whatever markers reacted w whatever glue they used.
The scribbling looks like they tested the marker before writing.
I've seen writing on case wood before, had an orig NYer case w writing under the lining stating the model but never saw writing bleed.
Is it one of those goofy Gibson USA cases?

Nope, it a historic reissue case, that doesn't look exact compared to a 59 case to my eyes, but it did come with a pink pillow for the headstock. Did the original 59 cases come with a headstock pillow?

In a perfect world, yes. But this is Gibson we are talking about. I doubt that they would do any thing for me. Maybe I should ask?

Pillow? You mean under the headstock?
If so, never seen on any vintage case

Be glad it is not a pentagram or goat's head or swastika facing the wrong way* or RED RUM. That would really spook me out.

Hmmm, strange writing appearing on an object where it had never been before ... watch out for nazgul and orcs.

Grown and gone. I am pretty sure that my cats did not do this.

My similar VOS case is from 2014. No issues. Thinking of what it takes for such a scribbling to penetrate through a layer of glue and textile-backed leatherette, it must have been quite a poison pen. And how on Earth did it take so long?

Well I have figured this out and really it is all in the Book of Daniel. 5:15 and following. My suggestion really is that you probably should sprinkle some Holy Water over the case with the proper blessing. Can be done by a lay person but not a bad idea if you get a priest or a deacon. However if you don't want to try that then just ship the guitar to me and I will play it for a few months, pray over the case, and send it back..................it really is the only solution.

The case for my '15 has no such things.. That looks like some kind of one-off marking on the tolex roll to me

Since it just appeared, I feel certain that it is ink from the wood that came through. Probably only happened on 2017 models and even then, perhaps just a few. I sure dont feel lucky....

things like that don't appear overnight, you probably didn't notice it because of the location

I've got a few issues with the guitar itself, so maybe you ARE lucky
