I thought Ibanez were selling these on an lottery system, whereby you contacted your local Ibanez dealer and asked for a ticket or number. That put you in a lottery where you might be in with a chance of winning the chance to then buy A guitar.

As far as I could make out, a large portion of those Ibanez anniversary guitars were rip offs of Seventy Seven's.

18k...wtf..? and no pickgaurd
-
At 18K, I'll just stay with my similarly scaled hand carved archtop at less than one third the cost of the Ibanez
-
It just looks crooked…. no?
-
I agree. I can’t get used to the look of the slanted frets, bridge, etc.

Yeah, Rob -- beautiful fanned-fret Forshage!

I helped Ralph Novak at the NAMM show the last few years he was there, so I saw hundreds of players look, gasp, gawk, and then play the instruments. I'm convinced it's a "psychological" thing, in that some wouldn't even touch them (due to the look), and others wouldn't even notice the frets (once they started playing). It took me about five minutes to get used to mine when I first got it. Now that other builders are using the design, if you see one out there, check it out!

Pretty guitar, looks like they're trying to establish themselves in the upper upscale market. I don't doubt it's a nice guitar, but that price range is for more than the cost of the guitar, it's the price of prestige.
Toyota wanted to go upscale so they made Lexus and they even made a supercar with no limits on their R&D budget. They made a true masterpiece but they couldn't dodge the stigma of Toyota associations.
It'll be an interesting story to see how this plays out. Who knows? This may be the next Gibson Kalamazoo. Hmmm, but even those are a hard sell.

I’ve always been a big Ibanez fan boy you guys know how crazy I am about the George Benson models.
When the Japanese GB40 model came out there were only 40 produced - it was allotted to high-volume dealers only and pretty much already spoken for and paid for.
But for the kind of money that they want for that guitar you could buy yourself a bunch of Campellone Specials easily . No thanks Ibanez.
hmmmmmm

There has got to be a better way to carve a top.

I'm wondering if you could train a beaver to chew the middle part...

You had to put in an order with your dealer for any of the 50, and then the dealers who had orders for individual guitars were in that guitar's "lottery". So, it may have been 1 or 200 dealers in the lottery for each guitar.

So why is it for sale at Sweet water then? Did Sweetwater do the dirty on Ibanez
