i use k&m stands, which are pretty sweet german ones. i was put off the hercules ones because of all the "they fixed it/they didn't fix it" that still rages on to this day. zero issues.

only one fairly esoteric thing of note: i use yoke capos and leave them above the nut when i'm done. my m20 was the guitar i left out in the stand for a while and there wasn't an issue. i rotated my sheraton in (which is a solid 5 lbs heavier) and accidentally forgot to remove the capo, so it left a couple of dimples. so if for some reason, someone out there uses a headstock supporting stand, a yoke capo that sits behind the nut when you're done, and a guitar that's more than 4 lbs, be advised.

I've had a nitro finish guitar on a Hercules wall hanger for 5 years non-stop with full contact. It's fine.

I sometimes use a K&M on the floor for other guitars. It's fine too. Great portability.

My guitar is clean. My stand is rusty.

About 3/4 of mine are either are hanging from slatwall hangers or are on quality guitar stands. These have been on the hangers/stands for 10 years. Fully strung to pitch. If I lived in an area that was earthquake prone or didn't have a whole room dehumidifier I would store them in cases. With the exception of chemical reaction with the wrong type of hanger material or dust, I see no downside to keeping them out and exposed. I like to look at them and I'm more likely to play them if they are visible. The one guitar that isn't in its case or on a hanger/stand is my headless Forshage and it sits in a chair as I play it every evening.

i keep my mandolin and acoustic leaning on and against end of my couch, archtop on reachable stand or leaning against couch, tele propped against wall or on the one stand that guitars alternate on, none ever see a case and i have two house pups that would never touch my guitars except for an occasional sniff when i'm playing...i just go from one to the other as mood swings

I've always liked the look of these wooden stands; the builder uses leather instead of plastic/rubber, so (ostensibly) no problems with the guitar finish. Pretty, but pricey.

... it is far from OK, to leave poor thing alone, meant to be played
