If you like your 40GX and you have no plans on gigging with it, why buy an older Cube 40?

I have a tough time differentiating between my orange Cube 60 and newer Cube 80GX at low volume. However, when I use either in a band rehearsal situation the 80GX is my go to amp. And the Cube 60 is its backup. Rationally, it really makes no sense to have a bullet proof Roland as a backup for another Roland since they are ridiculously reliable. I just dig amps and guitars and tend to have duplicates of both.

If you like the orange 40 and the 100 Euros price is fair for your region, then only you can make that decision to buy or not to buy.

Because I have read in other threads that the older orange ones sound better, that is what I'm trying to find out whether it's true - by people who had played on both.
Guess there isn't much of a difference then...

My old orange Cube 40 is just fine for home use. I think the spring reverb makes it sound a little nicer to my ears than the newer ones. I paid $150 CDN for mine (slightly more than the price you are considering) and I don’t regret it. Having said that, I have a bit of a soft spot for older gear that I remember from years gone by.
