I don’t remember seeing this finish before. And the finger tailpiece is a unusual as well. The seller says that it’s a 2004-2006 custom and all original. What are your thoughts?

Gold hardware finger tailpiece why not? Looks good. Check out the tailpiece if it was changed out there would be a hole below it they have a smaller footprint. Anything is possible with Gibson.

I’m also a little concerned that it might be a counterfeit. I have yet to find another example like it online. However, I am in Nashville so it could’ve been some special order done here at the factory.

Wouldn't it have a serial number you could possibly call Gibson about?
Not sure if that's a thing they do.

I would think so. And the Guy seems legit so I’m probably overthinking it. It’s a really good looking guitar.

I have seen that sunburst on 175's from that era and I have seen gold hardware on 175's from that era (though never on a burst), but I have never seen a Fingers TP on a 175.

I would call Gibson and verify if "all original" is of importance. Arguably, the Fingers TP is an upgrade from the standard 175 TP (the fingers TP came stock on the Howard Robert Fusion model of that era).

It might be a finish called Argentine Grey. I’ve seen some pics of a 335 with a similar appearance. Very odd that I can’t find another example online of it occurring on a 175.

I dn't believe it's a fake. It has the right bridge-posts, nibs, and the truss-rod cover appears to be the correct spacing. Those are the only three tells I can really see from those photos.

The curvature of the top esp as observed at the neck pickup has that funky profile that I associate with Gibson but which imitators never seem to copy.

Does not look like a HR Fusion III tailpiece. The arms look longer.

The one on the HR reminds me of the Heritage Eagle Classic TP. Interesting Gibson ES-175-914da59f-e15c-4020-8f20-c9a225dae8ba-jpeg

I believe the fingers tailpiece is made by ABM in Germany. They are at least the main supplier, AFAIK. It comes in a short version and a long version. The fingers are also interchangeable, meaning that it’s technically possible to have any combination of fingers one might want.

If you're in Nashville why not show some photos to those knowledgeable people at Gruhn's and ask their view?

I suppose I could. I also have a friend who worked at Gibson as a supervisor for several years. Might reach out to him for his opinion, too.

That’s a gorgeous 175. If it plays well and sounds good, I’d be proud to own it. I had 2 from that era and they were fine quality instruments in every respect.

like the others, I’ve never seen a finger tailpiece on a stock 175 either. But it sure looks classy with it and the gold hardware.

    Good luck!

It’s the correct shade for the year. That guitar looks ”bitchin!”

i think someone has swapped the tailpiece, the colour is correct iv had Gibson 165 with that same colour, its actually quite cool.

    What does the label say?

There was a ES165 double pickup if i recall ( rare) cant remember what tailpiece & headstock markings etc. May have been called Deluxe, their were one or two Japanese advertising about 6-7 years back

Gibson periodically does special runs of most of their products, including the ES-175.

Here's a super upgraded limited run ES-175 Custom that was recently listed on Reverb.

And, that gold hardware sustained itself far longer than it's silver counterpart. Heck, I've got a 2010 model whose silver is in mediocre shape. Just sayin'

It does look legit to me. And, yeah, it reminds me of Argentine Grey.

    It's a nice ES-175. It'd work for me.
