Great Examples of a Good Jazz Guitar Tone

Based on your past posts, you seem to be new to jazz and guitar. There are some distinctions you seem to be failing to make.
- Almost anyone can achieve a good jazz tone regardless of the skill level. Conversely, Grant Greene can record playing a Stratocaster mic'ed acoustically. It won't be a great tone but it can still be great music. Joe Pass has recordings in the same vein. So, tone does not equate to musicianship.
- We jazz musicians wear two hats. One as a jazz listener and appreciater of the art form. The other one is as musicians. When we talk about recordings, we are in the context of the former. In that case it's a discussion about art, not a pissing contest.

I think Grant Green's tone is great. Bright, a little edge to it, and instantly recognizable.

I discovered Ray Obiedo’s There Goes That a number of months ago. I find myself coming back to it frequently.

How does he get that sound? A lot of it is touch. A Strat, I think. Maybe a bit of compression? Straight into the board or an ultra clean amp.
