Has any one here ever played jazz on the pedal steel?
I've played jazz on guitar and piano, but I just started playing pedal steel, and I was wondering if anyone has played jazz on it.

The late great Buddy Emmons, Curly Chalker, Doug Jernnigan and many others played Jazz on pedal steel. I don't know if Jim Coen is still a member of this forum however he plays excellent Jazz on PSG.
Most players use the C6 neck for Jazz. I'm guessing if you are starting out you are learning the E9 "Nashville" tuning. While you can get lots of jazzy tones on E9, the C6 tuning and pedal changes lend itself to more chord extensions and the fat lower tones.
Get yourself over tho the Steel Guitar Forum if you haven't already-a wealth of info and great people!

Check out "Redneck Jazz Explosion" with Danny Gatton and Buddy Emmons. Fantastic playing all around.
