Sounds great and proves that a cutaway is an option, not a necessity.

Lovely, and well-played. A perfect example of that wonderful P-90 sound.

    Gorgeous tone!
In my book nothing beats those laminated Gibson from the golden era even more when they end up in the right hands...

There is something about that classic bebop tone. IMO you need plywood to achieve it. That great Tal Farlow / Jimmy Raney 1950's tone. You won't get it with a carved axe. Great tone DB !

Thanks Vinny. This is exactly why Iove ES guitars, especially the vintage ones. I love woody and creamy sounds with enough punch to cut through but without that trebly edge which you often hear in carved instruments. I guess it's called thunk over here. The old Gibson ES guitars all have that in spades. Heck, even my 80s ES 175 and 90s Tal have it.

Sorry but Jimmy Raney played exclusively his carved ‘39 ES-150 until it was stolen in the early ‘60s.

Laminated are great and so are carved top too.

For me it’s like choosing between Mom and Dad. I love them both.

    Cheers.

How do you record to get that wonderfully accurate tone?

For those interested, I posted a new vid with the ES 300 in the "showcase" section. It's "Body and Soul." The sound of the guitar is captured well I think. Internal link:

    Body and Soul

Somehow I think the "Showcase" section is not the best section to post clips ...
