currently using quilter 112HD cabs with celestion BN300 speakers. They sound great for clean and overdrive but are very neutral sounding. Looking for something that might have a bit more character for use with a fender amp...

Not looking for anything heavy like EV, JBL, etc....

    And no weber please.

Not a fan of the wgs ET65 or ET90 either...

I had (and sold) a special order WGS 12C/S rated for 100 watts (as opposed to, I think, 75 for the stock config). Very Fendery, obviously high-powered. Maybe they’d build you one.

since i didn't like the ET65 or ET90, i'll probably stick with jensen, emi or celestion

I did have an Eminence 1218, which they recommend as a “drop-in replacement” for a Twin. 150 watts, I believe, but man that thing broke up early and got farty with the very clean sound of the Yamaha G100-112 mkii it was installed in.

    a few that i'm considering:

    Emi JS-1250 (josh smith speaker)
Emi GASC-64 (rated 40 but will handle much more, based on a recommendation from an amp manufacturer)
Jensen Jet Tornado Stealth 100 (Neo speaker)
Emi wheelhouse (neo + hemp cone) - clips sound a little nasally probably due to both the hemp cone and the neo magnet
Emi Tonker (i really liked this in another amp I had)
Celestion Alnico Gold or Creamback 60 (EXPENSIVE)

Celestion P-A-G12-Cream X. Very pricey and worth it.

Is the C12K a reissue of the original jensen fender used? Regarding the jensen jet tornado stealth, one thing that concerns me is that it's got kind of a nasally sound in the clips I've heard although not as bad as the clips on the emi wheelhouse. I had a tonker before that I liked but I don't think I used it on a gig so I don't know if it holds up clean at loud volumes.

Another vote for the GASC-64. Sounds great on an American voiced amp.

C- series have ceramic drivers. C12Ks are used in reissue twin reverbs. The series has been used in bunch of fender amps.
P- series have alnico drivers. They have also been used in bunch of Fender amps.

There's a lot of info on the jensen website.

the clips i've heard of the c12k sound very boomy. Also, how does it work for fusion stuff? I'm tempted to get the george benson jensen (jensen jet tornado stealth 100) , anyone try those?

Jack, I recently bought a new amp from my friend Michael Biller, a prototype, that he dreamed up that I fell in love with. It has the Jensen Tornado speaker, and it's one of the best I've heard. Great tight, warm lows, and faithfully delivers the mids and clean highs. That's my put!

It came stock in my George Benson HRD so I don't really know, it performs well when I use the power amp section for acoustic guitar preamps or modelers' preamp simulations.

I typically play at low to mid volumes, using an archtop, mainly an acoustic with a floater. The L7 with the Lollar gold foil single coil and the Jensen seems to be in the sweet spot. It's the 10".

one of the things I heard about the creambacks is that they have a ton of bottom end which doesn't necessarily work with fender amps at loud volumes. That's my hesitation on any of the creambacks...

Also, the cab i'm using has only a 1/2" baffle and I'm a bit concerned about the weight of the alnico mag on the baffle...

It can get boomy and when I use the preamp section I turn the bass knob to minimum. But using the power amp section it sounds good. Here is the graph for 8 ohm C12K: Frequency Response Chart - C12K, 8Ω | Jensen Loudspeakers

They seem to be what Jack wants. A speaker that is based on a Fender sound but with some character to it.

I put a 50watt Celestiion AlNico Gold in my 22 watt Heritage Victory combo recently and it sounds amazing.

I probably should have tried a gold. I ended up getting another tonker though. I may buy a gold and give it a test run. I tried one once before and felt that it attenuated a bit too much of the high frequencies which made it lose a bit of fender chime but it sounded glorius for fusion!

Do you have the 50 or 40w?

Fwiw, another vote for wgs 12c/s.

    Fantastic speaker.

Celestion g12h100 is also a nice versatile speaker. Swapped it over a wgs65 in a dumble clone.

...the Jensen Tornado 100W Neo speaker does it all, with flying colors. The Stealth 80 is another great option, especially if your Gain goes to 11.
