I'm curious if anyone has experienced it. Here's the story. I've been having some tenitus in the left ear and some pressure that developed over a few weeks, some sneezing, probably related to the winter air associated with the heating season. So, I finally went to the doctor, the doctor said nothing about shortening bread, but did say to try Flonase for a few weeks, and that I probably had some allergy.
So, I do a spray this morning in my nose, and 20 or more minutes later take out one of my guitars. Leaning over it I notice a wet streak running across a place on my guitar and go wtf? It must have been a drop fallen from my nose, and when I went to wipe it, it had etched the nitro. I really did go WTF at that point. So, I immediately got out the virtuoso cleaner and got to work on it. It took quite a few minutes of rubbing, and got most of it, and I think I can rub the rest of the finish to fix it, no problem, but, I'm posting this as a courtesy and warning to anyone that might be using the stuff, or anything like it. It melts nitro. Holy smokes, my wife said, I wonder what it does to you?
Just say'n.

Holy cow! I use flonase every night, and my rack of guitars is literally beside my bed. I often play a few minutes right after using the flonase so it can "work" before I go to sleep.

Guys, Flonase has low concentration of phenethyl alcohol (a preservative) in it that likely reacted with your finish.

same w/ Deet bug spray [Off, etc]
put it on your arms, grab a nitro guitar and get ready for a sticky mess.
we were playing a night gig and the organ player went to spray his arms right in the direction of my guitar. Probably never moved so fast in my life

Sometimes I think that I may be allergic to all of my guitars. When I play I sometimes get a negative reaction.

WOW.....one more thing nitro doesn't get along with.

Gives new meaning to fretboard boogers.

Damn. Might wanna think twice bout what you're stickin' up your nose.
-
What's that on your guitar? Nose drip trail...
50% instant loss in market value.
Poly finished guitars have their purpose. Save the nitro finished ones for a more civilised audience.
Brüt is brutal to nitro as are most men's colognes. How did I manage to get to middle-age without buying or owning a single bottle of cologne in me life? Obsession by Calvin Klein attracts tigers so just be careful if you are heading to India.

You might consider trying Flonase Sensimist which is the newer nasal corticosteroid. Flonase dates to the 1990s and the newer verson a decade later as a perscription medicine.
It uses 1/2 the spray volume of regular Flonase (2 - 50 mcL sprays per nostril vs. 2 - 100 mcL per nostril) which is less prone to dripping, the formulation has no phenethyl alcohol, and it uses a more potent, less systemically bioavailable fluticasone ester (furoate vs. propionate) which is safer.

Whenever I have sinus trouble I use my neti pot to flush out my sinuses. All you need is a neti pot and some non iodised salt. It seems gross but it works great.
-
Matt, those are fine so long as the water that you use is: boiled first and stored in the refrigerator <7-days to minimize the likelihood of infection and the correct amount of salt is added to ensure tonicity with the nasal mucosa (~1/4 tsp/8 oz of water) to ensure youdon’t drive water in or out of the cells. Lastly, Neti pots and nasal sprays treat the nasal passages and not the sinuses.

I have used my neti pot for over 14 years. I have always had good results. I also have not had a cold in way over 14 years!

Jeff is correct about the risk. The link below is the same story. My point is trading off between a preserved nasal corticosteroid spray and a nasal rinse does not come without risks. I was merely exchanging best practices to minimize risks. People mistake a lack of drug with being lower risk when it is a trade-off of different types of risks.
After brain-eating amoeba death, what water is safe in a neti pot?

Give me a thin poly finish any day of the week.

That's right.

I know this could seem a little "out there," but maybe take some Kleenex and dry your nose before you reach for that guitar?
-
Easier said than done. When you have allergies you can clear your nose and ten seconds later everything is back with a vengeance.

Steve if the Virtuoso didn’t remove the nitro mark get The Guitar Players Scratch Kit. Stuff works great and nitro friendly. It will safely remove the mark and then a coat of Virtuoso polish.....good as new my friend.

Happy New Year my Friend! Fortunately, it wasn't my L5P! The Virtuoso didn't get it perfect, but it did get most of it. I'm going to get some of what you recommend, mainly because your guitars are supremo!, and I have the utmost respect for anything you say regarding guitars! The L5 is now in the No. 1 spot of my most played and beloved. Cheers! And, wishing you the best this year!
