I've had 3 different Eastmans, both the 403 and 805 needed setup that included lowering the nut slightly, shaving the bridge bottom and slight truss rod tweaking, the Pisano needed nothing. I think they generally come new with a basic setup but need some work depending on the strings you like and your playing style. Just a little bit of nut work can make a big difference, I wouldn't give up on the Eastman - I don't think there is a significant scale length difference between the Eastman 25 and Gibson/Epi 24.75 that make playing any easier (others will disagree).

tks everyone, helped calm my wants...good news hopefully. I talked to an old bandmate in Memphis today that reminded me and gave me the number of a friend I haven't seen in years who's the go to guy there. I gave him a call, dropping off Eastman Saturday, having lunch, catching up and he'll have the guitar diagnosed and set up as good as possible Monday. Fingers crossed that there is room for improvement
