What is a good and affordable case for a Gibson ES-175?

Man, I'm having enormous problems finding one for my Epi es-175. Not one in my entire country, or in the UK either to fit perfectly. Or America!! Can't find an Epiphone one in stock, and can't find a clone to fit either-Gator doesn't make one (I mailed them on it) The only case I CAN find is the Gibson one, which is what 2 manufacurers have recommended to me to buy. Let me know if you find one. The 940-EEMCS case from Epiphone SHOULD be coming into stock in America in a month-they are around 80 bucks. But-they've been saying that for 2 months now.

Give Ithaca Guitar Works a call at (607) 272-2602 (US number). He had a couple of non-Gibson, generic ones last year for under $100. Don't know what he has, now, however.

The Hisscox J200 is what I ended up buying.
-
No undue pressure on the bridge? That's my worry-if theres pressure-or indeed no pressure on it, I'm scared it will crack the archtop.
-
The original case (brown with pink lining) on my 71 ES175 broke a handle, and a couple of latches. Made it kind of dicey to take out, as I was always afraid the 2 remaining latches might give way, and the guitar tumble out.
I had a decent hardshell case for a Martin (not the molded ones) that had the plywood top crack, so I replaced it. Probably due to fluxuations in humidity. Over the years, I have had cases "crap out". However, if you are not gigging with it, and it is for just keeping it safe around the house, obviously the requirements for sturdiness go down.Last edited by derek; 04-06-2010 at 12:55 PM.

It's been quite a few years since this thread was posted. I'll post this here for historical reference in case anyone else is still looking for a replacement flight case for the Gibson ES175.
I have found that the Hiscox Pro-II GAD Acoustic Steel String Case is a perfect fit for the ES175.
Someone earlier posted pictures of a 175 in the Hiscox Pro-II GJ Jumbo Acoustic Case. I have a Pro-II GJ Jumbo Acoustic Case for my bigger jazz guitar. I tried my 175 in that case and the GJ case was too big.
Measured Gibson ES175
Total Length tip of headstock to end of strap lock : 1050mm
Body Length including heel to end of strap lock : 535mm say 41-5/16"
Body Length NOT INCLUDING heel - to end of strap lock : 520mm
Width Lower Bout : 408mm say 16"
Width Upper Bout : 291mm say 11-1/2"
Body Depth back to top of bridge : 115mm say 4-1/2"
I was a bit confused by the "Body Length" interior case measurement provided by Hiscox for the Pro-II GAD case. Which stated 521mm, but the guitar measures 535mm from heel to end of strap lock. Making it look like the guitar would not fit in the case. But it appears that measurement is incorrect. The Gibson ES175 guitar fits fine in the GAD case.

Not for nuthin', but Epiphone is still producing an ES-175 case, model number is 940-EEMCS.
Sweetwater usually has the best selection of Epi cases in stock, but that particular one is out of stock at the moment.
But zZounds has right now it for $89 shipped: http://www.zzounds.com/item--EPIEEMCS

James Cargill, guitar luthier here in Australia, ordered a genuine Gibson ES175 case for me. Took six months to arrive, during which time I found the Hiscox case ... after prolonged investigation. Gibson case just your average case, but cost to me would have been AUD$500 - versus far superior Hiscox case for AUD$370. Gibson case went back to distributor, needless to say.

Hello!
Im looking for a padded case for es 175 that you can carry on your back. It must be available for order in Europe. When I searched, I mostly found tips for brands that ship from the US. Thanks in advance!

I got a Reunion Blues Continental Voyager for my L5 but it also fits my 175 very nicely (they also make one for 16” guitars although I got one for 17” guitars and it still fits 16” guitars nicely). Really really solid gigbag. I think I could drop it off of a roof and have the guitar survive.
I looked up there international info and found this. Reunion Blues Gig Bags & Cases - International Distributors It looks like they have international distributors in Germany and Italy (and the UK but that wouldn’t help in Europe from what I’ve been told after Brexit). Probably some other places that sell them too or maybe Amazon if you have that. I definitely recommend the case though.

I use Mono M80 dreadnought. Many guitarists use these for ES 175's. Pricey but super padded and has decent size pockets.

+1 for the Mono M80 Dread
Remarkably (if accidentally) useful for many guitars including 175 and other 16” archtops, and oddly enough for a Byrdland as well.
Un-cheap. But there you go.

Thanks for the tips! Both the suggested cases look nice, however only the Mono is available om Thomann which means Ill probably go for that.
Just to make sure, is this the one you are suggesting?

Actually, now I also found the reunion blues case, they had named it a bit differently. Since they seem pretty similiar Ill probably just for the Mono which is cheaper

I’ve heard excellent things about the Mono and that it is pretty equivalent in build quality and protection to the Continental Voyager. I was about to get one actually but then I found the latter on Amazon with free shipping. It is definitely liberating having a really heavy duty gig bag - I had always been nervous before getting it since gig bags I had I the past weren’t nearly as protective.

Yes, I can really relate to that! Im writing from a seaside cabin that I had to get to by bus while being nervous for my guitar in a rather flimsy case. Never again!

Anyone have any issues using the mono sleeves vertigo with a floating bridge on their archtop? Are floating bridges secure with these style of soft cases?

There was a diagonal zipper which led to a pocket I think designed for sheet music or books, and within that pocket there's another interior pocket nearly the same size with the zipper running down the far right side (if looking at case head-on).

I cut out the diagonal zippered exterior pocket out leaving the "interior pocket" and of course the small mesh pocket within that. You can't even tell I did it and as a bonus I am no longer announcing to the whole world that I have mono

Just an update: got my mono m80 today and I'm really happy with it! Lightweight and yet sturdy. As some people have commented in other threads, it sits a bit high when you wear it on your back. Im quite tall so I'm used to kneel as I walk through doors with a guitar on my back, but if your shorter this might make a difference for you.
TLDR: Mono M80 = great buy, recommend it!

Glad the Mono worked out. ES 175 may be an easier fit than some. For those looking for fit other models you have to check all dimensions not just lower bout width. Many gig bags designed for flat tops have an inner length that is too short. A Mono 80 has an interior length of 42". Many archtops are a little longer than that so it's important to measure before you buy one.

Generally not an issue as long as the front pocket of the case is not loaded with too much stuff, and by this I mean that I don't feel like there is any pressure to move the bridge when I'm loading the guitar into it.
