I had a friend who passed away not too long back, and his wife gave me a bu pnch of his stuff that didn’t sell at the garage sale. Included were several Dunlop Ultex picks, and I absolutely loved the sound I got. When I found out the Primetone picks are also Ultex, I decided on the Primetone Jazz with the beveled edges. Absolutely love them. I’ve never been more satisfied with my tone. I used to almost exclusively play finger style because I hated how picks chirped whenever I plucked the strings. With the Ultex and Primetone picks, I get no chirp and have great control of the dynamics. I have no idea how a blue chip pick sounds, but I honestly see no reason to try one at this point.

EDITED TO ADD: based upon how much the jazz pick at 1.4 mm thick, I wanted to try a thicker pick to get close to what the Blue Chip offers. I went with the traditional sized Primetone at 2.0mm and I like this thickness even better. And with the jazz pick, you get one good corner, but they beveled all three corners of the traditional shape, so the sharper corner is bright and the other two are a little less bright. Kind of like having a tone control built into the pick. and while I hold the traditional pick closer to the sharp point than most people in order to approximate the distance of the point of the Jazz III, I find I like the traditional pick much better. And at $3.99 for three of them, I still don’t see the need for a $30 pick.

As requested, here are photos. But rather than dig them up, I used the stock photos off Amazon, where I ordered them.

    Try Clifford Essex products!
Having collected several hundred pics since I bought my first guitar in 1965, and had endless debates about shape, materials, size, feel, bevelling, angle and speed of attack, etc. etc. I discovered that the legendary Clifford Essex company is still operating in a small town in the U.K. - not too far from where I live in fact! I thought they had gone out of business decades ago (I used to go into their shop in Denmark Street in the early ‘70s - and see some old-timers trying out some very valuable looking banjos and mandolins,
AND they still have a lot of the old merchandise especially the flat would strings on their very modest website.

The attached pictures of the plectrums I bought from them online made me feel the world of guitar is missing out on something!
Especially the shape, and bevelling (matching the perfectly selected thickness and density of the material) is what the old tortoise shell “jazz picks” used to be like.
[At this conjunction, let’s not start a debate about if real tortoise/turtle shell picks were really good or not. There were many different types of them. ...incidentally, you could still get some until well into the ‘70s in Charing Cross Rd - under the counter, if you made the right noises!]

And the price...! A fraction of the fancy figures discussed above. They even sent me some promotional pick or two - without even mentioning it anywhere in the dispatch (the middle one: Buffy - would really be a shredder’s dream!)
