That is surprising, esp. since you say the 1000 did not ? Theyre the same size etc .??

The RC-1000 wasn't attached to the pick guard, so it didn't involve any contact with the top of the guitar.

I'm going to get him to re-install it, but I'm in no hurry, because the electric sound wasn't the same as before.
This could be due to the fact that I'm not using a PV Vintage tube amp that had two 12" SRO EV ('coffee can') speakers, and/or the new Guilds are not as powerful as the original DeArmond pickups.

The Guild reissues have half the output as an original DeArmond.

I'm much happier with the sound of my Kent Armstrong 1100 copy; it really comes very close to the incredible, powerful clarity I used to get out of my original RC1000 on my D'A, without the infamous defect of a weaker signal from the high E string.
I still think the two 12" SRO EVs were also a factor in the 'mini-orchestral' sound I got from the D'A with the RC-1000, because when I used the D'A with a Twin, it lacked that special, solid sound the SRO EVs got.
Unfortunately, two 12" SRO EVs come with a guaranteed hernia, if you try to lift them the wrong way, as a sax player friend of mine found out when he refused to wheel the amp.

I have a beautiful 18 inch Excalibur. Had it since 2005 got it from Franz. Actually have it for sale but no takers it is big wide neck 1 13/16. I have enough guitars an if I have this D'a gets too much rest. It is blond bomb.

I met him several times, and again just last week on a guitar show, super nice guy

In regard to the Excel, Gottuso was playing a Les Paul Black Beauty "Fretless Wonder". When the Excel was ready, my father purchased the Les Paul for me in 59'. I still have it with the original case.
