Okay, as an aside to my current post about searching for new amp, I'd like to know what all you dyed-in-
the-wool fanatical Tele players use for amps. Now, it should be no surprise on this forum that I'm a notorious lover of Telecaster guitars - I've really not played anything (nor have I wanted to) since I got my first one (a '68) in about 1971. Since then I've played 'em, loved 'em, and built 'em to the exclusion of all others. I've owned every high $$$ Gibson there is, Heritage SE, Peerless, a real '59 PL 'burst, Strats, etc. and so on. Nothing does it for me like a Tele. With that being said, I used a '71 Super Reverb for about 35 years until I couldn't lift it anymore and went to Polytones and Cubes. As a former pedal steel player, I've tried Evans and was a dealer for them back in the 80's - nice amps. I'm still looking for amps - I don't plan to stray from my beloved Teles (there's another being built as we speak) but I'm still amp searching. Right now I have an MB200 and an original AI Clarus 1R and pair them with either an open backed cabinet with a SICA neo 12" or a home built Stealth 10 clone and use whichever reverb pedal suits my fancy on any given day.....BUT....I'm really looking to simplify matters and go back to a simple combo amp with a decent reverb and lots of head room and, above all, it needs to be light. I don't care a whit for distortion or other effects - just reverb. So, like everyone else, I'm looking for the perfect amp - just wondering what all you Tele players out there are using for a CLEAN, PRISTINE tone....let's hear it.

I play my Telecasters through what God and Leo intended them to be played through, a Fender amp :-)
Seriously, my ideal amp for most gits is a Super Reverb, second to that is a Marshall JTM30, everything else is a distant third or... whatever happens to be handy, I'm not fussy, the Telecaster voice is unique enough to make any amp sound like a tele is plugged in..
Gigging players would likely have some very different needs.

I don't know about alternative facts, but I believe in alternative Leo! I play a G&L ASAT Special through a MusicMan RD 112 Fifty plus an extension cab, both rocking (as in a ton of rocks) EVM-12Ls.

Nothing suits a Tele more than a Vox !!! Unfortunately there's no lightweight Vox combo. The Vox highs accentuate the best qualities of a tele, for jazz a Vox with a High Cut is necessary.
A full sounding hi-fi'ish tube alternative is Ampeg. Big, bold and clean sound.

There are very few amps that wouldn't pair well with a Tele. That's why it's the little black dress of guitars. Or the Pinot Noir of guitars. Or something like that.
I have a Fender SCXD which is a nice, fairly light "hybrid" amp--tube preamp, plus DSP modelling. Sounds good through that.
I usually play though through a Fishman Loudbox Artist. Despite being an "acoustic" amp, I have yet to find a guitar that doesn't sound well through it, though it won't have that tube warmth or overdrive that many people like.

Well, Super Reverb gets my vote too, although i really like it with 2x10s also (with a small circuit to tend to the resistance difference), easier to carry also this way. I also use an Alessandro Rottweiler a lot with my tele, but not so much for the sound (which IS great), but cause it's the lightest 40 watt tube amp i 've found

My '66 Custom Telecaster sounds swell through my DRRI. Also everything else I've ever plugged into. I'm hoping to find a nice Princeton Reverb. Had one. Sold it.

What's wrong with your polytone and cube you mentioned? I love my old orange Roland cube. My tele loves it. Loud and clean enough and not too heavy.
-
I like my telephone through anything. My favorite amp for it is a princeton, but when I need more volume for gigs, I use my hemriksen or polythene with a fender voiced preamp.
-
I use a tweed Deluxe 5E3 clone. Great combination with a Tele or just about anything else.

Toobs, Skip, toobs.

My main amp for the past year has been my newer edition fender Rumble 100w w/12" speaker. Clean, 20lbs, and I run a Holy Grail through the effects loop. The buttons are fun to play with too, if you want different sounds...Vintage is my favorite.
-
My favorite amp for my tele is my 1962 Fender Pro. I have other nice amps including a Mesa, a Tremolux and a Bassman but everything sounds great through the pro. It must be the DNA.
Thanks John

Fender Blues Junior for hi-fi/reverb
and Mambo 8 for dark jazz -
with $400 Fender Vintage Vibe 50s tele

A DRRI with a neo speaker might do you. For really light weight, Quilter
As a caveat on the Quilter, if you're used to those nice Fender verbs, the digital verb on the Quilter is quite poor.

best Tele sounds on tube amps...:-)

I've used a fender super champ dx with my tele for almost two years now, for performing/rehearsing everything from country to big band. I wouldn't be happier with anything else, there's nothing it can't do. Very light and portable rig makes it easy to be on the go without a hassle. I could drag out my vintage deluxe reverb, but why?

Problem solved - found an Evans AE100!! Amazing that things come along right after buying something else. Already sold the MB200 and am listing the AI Clarus 1R that I just bought to cover it. I've got an 8" Eminence Alpha for an external speaker if needed. Should solve all my amp problems. Thanks for all the advice!!!!!

I mostly use this Tupelo or a kit 5E3. Sounds great through anything, though.Last edited by morroben; 01-28-2017 at 07:38 PM.

Since you mentioned Super Reverbs, I think I'l treat my Blues Cube Stage (14 kg / 30 lbs. 14 oz.) an UBTC...

IIRC, some of the first Teles (Broadcasters, nocasters) were made out of pine. Some guys like the tone...
