I get so excited when I see someone getting to buy such a nice instrument for such a great price. The more people we have playing and loving these guitars, the better the whole music scene gets. I have started thinking of "collectors" more as "re-circulators" in that I see how often you guys who own several of these great guitars sell them passing them on to others, then grabbing another, enjoying it, and sending it back into the world. Keeps the flow going and the goodness spreading around.

Seattle is such a hit and miss scene for jazz guitar, even though we've several thriving clubs exclusive to local musicians. The '175 sat advertised on Craigslist @ $2200 for 3 weeks. I received the first phone call 4 days ago. I figured it would make a nice Xmas gift for a guitar player.
As it's often said seaguitar, "play it in good health", and it was great meeting you!

Thanks 2bornottobop. Great meeting you too, in fact the first person from this forum I've met in person, and hope I get to hear you play one of these days.
I want to apologize again if I was unduly suspicious - I've been burnt on forums and CL with my other hobby -- photography, but you've restored my faith in humans.
You're right about the scene, I've been to some of the Jazz guitar society house concerts and amazed at how few people come to see some world class players.
WRT ad, I did see it, but wasn't planning to purchase a guitar right now, but as guitarists we all know how that goes.
Cheers

Congrats seaguitar. My main gigging guitar is a blonde 1997 ES-175 and I own three genuine D'Angelicos. I know what a great jazz guitar is supposed to do, and though I have not played yours, I will bet that with 2bops expert knowledge, yours is a winner.
May it inspire your playing for years to come!

Thanks for the fantastic words stringswinger, that's really heartwarming words of encouragement, and I really appreciate it!

Seaguitar, You stepped in it big time. You got something to feel really good about.
Id love to hear it.
2b, I can't to see what's up next.

That's a heart-stopper, even for a guy like me who's partial to a sunburst... this is one sexy, shapely blonde!

Other tells are logo placement/angle, truss-rod cover location, and headstock wings (a real Gibby has a 3-piece headstock, with the neck lumber going to the top of the headstock, and two "wings" widening it out to accept tuners and headstock-carve).

Notice also that the serial number and "Made in USA" stamp on the fake are gold-embossed. Gibson does not do this, and never has, to my knowledge.
Regarding TRC placement, again, authentic first, fake second. The TRC is set against the nut on every fake I've seen:

Logo placement/style is a bit more subjective given the changes over the years, but generally speaking, the "tail" of the "G" in "Gibson" should be closer to the D string tuner than the "tail" of the "N" is to the G string tuner.Last edited by Thumpalumpacus; 12-16-2016 at 01:28 PM.

2b is waiting for Mark to get tired of the Super 400 CC or maybe the Guild JSA. We'll see
