I have 24 guitars. My wife doesn't care.

As my 69th birthday gig is coming up in a few weeks , I thought I'd indulge in something just for the artistry .
a Teye E-Series Electric Gypsy la india Azteca
A disciple of the late Tony Zemaits , Teije Wijnterp had Tony make him a pearl top, and he's continued the hand made tradition , first in Austin , now in Nashville.
When I saw this particular one I just lost it , the Aztec engravings and turqoise are just off the charts , and the Shipwreck ( aka "Sinker" ) mahogany back and neck look mightycool . They are most definetly odd ball , not for everyone .. but they do have a VERY cool tone pallete and you know it will be an object of conversation every where ...
24 fret ebony , Lollar Imperials . 5 way switch yields : Neck / Neck split+Bridge/ Neck + Bridge/ Neck +Bridge out of phase/ Bridge

We go round once in life. Enjoy what makes you happy!

Pickups are very personal, but I found the DiMarzio 36th Anniversary to sound as good as my Lollar Imperials, at half the price. I have to thank Chuck D’Aloia for recommending these to me. Just a FYI.
Have fun at your 69th B’day gig!

Thanks , Larry D makes great pickups . I've built with pickups from several boutique builders as well .. it all comes down to how the luthier brings it all together. Fralin, Lollar, Duncan,Harmonic Designs, Bartolini, TV Jones as well Di Marzio's all make delicious models.
-
That is very true. There are subtleties that are different between similar type pickups giving them their unique voice.

That has always been the fun part about building custom instruments for artists.
Trying to bring the sound in their head, the look in thier heart, and the budget in their wallet ... into happy harmony

She arrived yesterday , a cool and quirky lil beast. Very comfortable neck , oiled and plays like a very broken in old Gibson. The controls take a bit of getting use to , but there are some very interesting tones hiding in there.
For those that like the Ronnie Wood/ Keith Richards/ Neil Young school of Rock .. it fills that snarling lil bulldog rold well.
Clean and split it pulls of great shimmering surf tones , roll of the treble and it can do some decent cream.
I can't say that I would recommend it unless you like quirky niche instruments , I'm pleased it fits a small niche for me and will be fun on stage.

As I approach my 71st bday , I've stopped collecting. I hit one for each week, and as I retired from my Open Mic/Soundman duties for the last 3 years, and stopped performing a month ago, I saw no purpose to get more.
My final choice, a rosewood neck PRS Santana Artist. Plays like a dream, a wide pallet of tones in a simple format.

In the early 90s my company got bought and since I was a Sr Mgr we had this big dinner with the buyers. One of the VPs supposedly had one of the biggest collections of strats in the world, a large climate controlled room with guitars from Clapton, SRV, etc. I told him if I had that room I'd never leave it, I'd just play all day. "Oh I don't play guitar, I just collect them." I almost lost my dinner (and job) over that one.

I'll call that last one my son's now so that keeps me at 5. We downsized 5 years ago and there is no room for anything else. In fact the AS100 is under one of the beds somewhere, haven't seen it since last September. And yet I still go on Reverb every day and hit every shop and yard sale I drive by because I just know there's one out there calling to me that I haven't found yet. It's probably a Howard Roberts clone, that would probably get me to add one more. Or a tele, everyone needs a tele.

Well ... sometimes something comes along that you just can't say no to..

That reminds me that I need more guitars with P90s!

There are 5 versions of the Core model. I'm blessed to have them all. All are quite capable of the "Carlos " tone
That one has an East Indian neck with a braz board, which is pretty standard on PRS. 2 have coil taps , which makes them quite a bit more versatile.
The River blue one is a Retro , and has the 85/15 bridge, not the LT ( covered version of the 59/09 used in the Custom 24)
It is a bit bright. I have a different year Retro Artist with a flame Maple neck and Ziricote board , it has the traditional Santana bridge .
-
The rare KL-33 All Korina ( body + neck) Santana with the braz board , mine has a coil tap
One of the collector favorites a 1980 West St LTD with a quilted Sapele top and neck with a braz board and of course the little dragon .both sound amazing and sustain for days.
-
Then the Holy Grail , a 7th anni present for the head of PRS HR . One of one color, semi-hollow (not a stock model) and matching back, with a One of a kind color, real Turquoise inlay , coil tap ... and of course the rosewood neck
It is the best playing instrument I've ever touched , including several trips to the Artisan show.
-
Wait wait wait....how did you acquire that? You were HR head at PRS or you bought it from the guy who was?

Recently, I traded two guitars to get one. Yet another way for me to reduce the headstock count. If anyone here wants to get a few guitars in trade for one, hit me up. My ongoing campaign to reclaim the floorspace in my fun room continues!

How you digging the Bluesbird? I've heard they are kinda in between an LP and a 335 since they are chambered.

I got the semi Santana directly from the PRS Archives, Christina had it on consignment and it was shipped from PRS.
By far the most expensive instrument I own, and worth every penny.
-
Sweet Bluesbird , I've always liked those
-
Let's count, and justify!!!
One "good" Classical guitar and one flea mkt. find for $110. So good - how could you not grab it? Has its problems tho.
One great cheap Strat (another flea mkt. find) -for THAT sound.
One jazzy semi hollow bass.
One great acoustic guitar.
One 65 year old Guild Starfire. Emo value but it's a great guitar.
One Jazz box L5 CES
A Gibson 335 and an Epiphone 335 for "outdoor" use.
A high quality Epiphone Casino for hollow thin line P90 fun.
A Fender '65 Electric XII, for you know what.
That's 11. I've thinned it down as far as I can after parting with some real beauties.
