Not a Biltoft in this video, but a lot of love for CCs lately, and I just saw Eddie this evening (at 92!). Dig the tone (and the cuffs

2b, looking at this guitar is like watching gold raining from the sky. Amazing looks and photography! Congratulations. A CC pickup is really something special in an archtop and every one I heard so far sounds great IMHO. I hope it all lives up to your expectations!

    Cheers,
    Frank

2B after all the "sampling" seems you brought all your knowledge and taste to bear on this creation, and the end result looks outstanding, perfection and beauty...playable. Congratulations!!

Speaking of Mr Duran, I ran into him in Real Guitars on Lafayette Street in San Francisco trying out a real early Fender Telecaster the owners had just taken in. Chris turned to Eddie and said, hey let me know what you think of this. Eddie plugged in into an old blackface Deluxe and went nuts. Made it sound like more different arch tops than I could describe.

I left there jaw dropped. Don't even remember why I was there after hearing that cat play.

Thank you Frank! You know, I'd been wanting a big box acoustic for some time. This guitars got several years to open up and yet its acoustic voice already displays moments of sheer brilliance. And that's with flatwounds, which for me are likely to be pulled for bebop 14's, which are my acoustic string.

The pickup sounds like those I've heard. When the guitar returned from the luthier dawning its new pickup I plugged it into the SS amp and was pleased with the result. Yesterday I sampled the pup in my 2x12 tube amp where it really sparkled. I couldn't be happier with the selection of this Biltoft CC floater. The guitar is a bonafide keeper for sure.

2B's.. you have a great eye for guitar photography. It's good that you have a guitar some call a 'pinnacle'. I can see why they would say that. But while I very much like your guitar, it's good for all of us that it's a specification, nice woods, modest amount of cash, and a small wait to achieve this result. We are in a unique time that has lasted far longer than I would have thought where a very nice archtop can be acquired and fully worked over for under $2K. I have to wonder how much longer the wood will last though.

The flaws seem consistent. Hardware and frets. I replace the tuners, nut, and electronics on mine. I've also learned I enjoy working on them so I level the frets and make the nut from blanks. Only a few of mine have not needed this.

As I am relocating to the NW, possibly we will get a chance to compare some guitars.

    Thank you Spook!

Good luck on your move to the NW. That's quite the transition from where you're coming from. With your relocation here that would make the total of 4 of us here that I know about.

I viewed your incoming Yunzhi's a few years back so I knew going in that there would still be some finishing work on this end. And electing to have a plek fret done the total was a bit more, but I'd never experienced that option before and I have to say I'm impressed, as the guitar now practically plays itself.

2b how is the PU attached? Do you happen to have some pics of a non installed PU, or closeups from the side? I sent a inquiry to vintagevibeguitars but have not received an answer yet.

Not trying to hijack this thread. I had Peter Biltoft make me a Double CC floater, with the same specs as my Kent Armstrong 12 peice floater PAF. Love it, plus no 60 cycle hum. I just attached to to the pickguard with a screw/bolt, as opposed to epoxied.

What is a DoubleCC, and what do you mean by same specs - same outside dimensions?

It is attached to the underside of the ebony pickguard. The only photos I have are on page 1. It was a Pro installation. No pre-install underside photos, sorry.

To the best of my knowledge my specific model is made to attach to pickguards. VV has a similar model that has a mounting bracket to attach to the end of a fingerboard. Great PU!

Double CC rider humbucker, and fits on my existing Elferink Tonemaster ebony pickguard, w/out modification.
I originally got the idea from a Seymour Duncan CC humbucker built for famed session guitarist Bob Bain. But I had Peter Biltoft make it exactly to the same specs as a Kent Armstrong 12 pole peice floating PAF.

Can anyone suggest a good guitar polish for a guitar (a Mr Wu) finished w/nitrocelulous? (sp?)

    Thanks,

The Gibson polish seems to work fine. Most of the standard polishes that have been around for awhile are designed for nitrocellulose finishes.

The very best polish is Virtuoso. Pricey but worth it big time.
