I have the Boss GE7, and it does the job well enough for me. I mostly use it as a boost/quiet pedal to quickly switch between lower volume for comping and louder for solos, because I don't really need the EQ that much. You can get quite a bit of EQ from it if you do need it, though. I've never tried other EQ pedals, so I can't really give you any comparisons.

The best would probably be the Empress ParaEQ. At $250 it's pricy but it's an outstanding EQ that pairs nicely with a Princeton. Being a parametric eq the Empress is outstanding at finding just the right spot to boost or cut. For clarity and headroom the ParaEQ can't be beat.

For a lot less money the Danelectro Fish & Chips EQ works well enough to boost the mids and cut highs & lows.

Mid-priced are the Boss GE-7 or MXR 10-Band graphic eq's. Both are very nice and durable.

Most of the graphic eq pedals should do the job. Since you're posting on a jazz forum I would suggest making sure a graphic EQ has a boost/cut above 6k (most of the 7 bands have a boost/cut around 6.4k, the MXR 6- band does not). Being able to cut frequencies above 6k might also help with a Fuzz pedal as they can be a bit harsh.

Empress looks awesome. Is the Fish and Chips really decent? At 1/10 the price, I wonder what the catch is... Noise?

Yes... noise. Empress pedals are the most transparent that I've found. I snagged one used for $160.

The Danelectro pedals also have had reliability issues. Surprisingly they've had a few good sounding pedals, but yes they are noisy.

The ParaEQ is really, really nice and very transparent. If you buy used be sure to check the pedal's version before running at 18 volts:

I have had most eq pedals in the market, just get a Zoom MS100BT. Cheap, small, sounds great, has graphic eq and parametric eq and you still get a tuner and lots of excellent effects.

Not exactly an eq pedal, but I use a boss fender bassman pedal as one.
I keep the gain low and the presence know adds a nice touch.

I have a pristine Empress EQ in the box been lightly used in the FS section for 150 plus shipping. Great tool I just don't need it anymore. PM me if interested.

I am at sea with this thread. Or maybe just at sea. The OP says he wants to adjust his tone. One of the suggests is an Empress ParaEq. Top of the line. Only set you back ~$260 US.

As an apologist for modeling, I suggest looking at alternatives. The modeller I use has so many options for eq that I am lost in the weeds. Fortunately others have done a lot of the heavy lifting and you can purchase their effots. $20 is not a bad investmet. It can get you in the ballpark, then you can tweak.

The modeller I use, and am in no way affiliated, is an Amplifier. The cost of the ParaEq, and I'm not knocking it, is approaching 50% of the price of the modeller.

    A complete aside but nonetheless.

tomems have you tried turning Princeton volume up say 5 or 6, guitar volume down say 3 and turn down the treble and bass on the amp from current settings, bass quite a bit if you normally run the volume a lot lower.

My favorite by far is the CarlMartin 3 Band Parametric Preamp https://carlmartin.com/3-band-parametric-pre-amp/
I have checked out lots of others like Fishman, a couple of Boss, Empress but to my ears they were all of lesser sound quality.

I have the 'ol reliable Ge-7 as well, but haven't used it in a while. When I did I used it mainly as a clean boost. I play through a Boogie MK IV, not sure how popular they are here, but honestly with the eq available in the amp I can make any guitar as bright as dawn or as dark as midnight and anything in between. And, sad to say, I had the amp a good 14 months before I figured that bit out.

Still like my MXR 10-band EQ pedal. Although not as versatile as a parametric eq perhaps, I like that you can see the position of the sliders at a glance and easily recognize the setting.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but I'm partial to the eqd tone job. Butt simple, but its tuned well. Three bands eq with a volume boost. You can do a billion things with it once you understand how it works.

If I had more money, or a greater need, id also go with the empress. They do good things.

I did link the EQD at 10-11-2016, 07:08 PM but without any context. Good to hear.

GC has a used Boss for $40, I've thought about sending that to Analogman for $55 mod. Or just saving pennies for Empress.

In the short term, I actually have an iStomp that I always forget about; that has a 3 band EQ with adjustable midrange. Going to give that a try...

Tonems, I never tried Analogman but I had a Monte Allums GE-7 at some point and sounded much better than stock.
