Man I must get around more than I realize. More than 15 years ago I used to make regular day off trips up into Marin and one of my gear stops was eGuitar on 4th and E in San Rafael. Where I first well in love with the upper wall of Heritage Super, Golden Eagle and Sweet 16 guitars they had in stock. A kid working the counter named Danny Click was great to me and we had a great rapport. There was a lot of gear there on consignment from the heavy hitter collectors in Marin. Danny met lots of people and had a chance to score a Dumble Overdrive Deluxe, yeah a real Dumble. Eventually he sold it to Keith Urban, but before he did an amp designer copied the circuit. A whole bunch of clones ensued. Bill of Sebago Sound got that circuit and also the circuit for the Steel String Singer which he named his version the Texas Flood because SRV used a Steel String Singer.

I've got a Sebago Sound Overdrive Deluxe on order and located a Texas Flood which will arrive probably end of next week. 2B, you'll be as pleased as me to know I DID get the blonde tolex combo with diamond grill (Bill's cabinet had a Double Trouble in it, an Eminence EM 12 and can't wait to play it... Bill is gonna tie the whole thing together and then send it off to me. Wait time for a build is typically 8-10 weeks. Here's the link to the Sebago Sound site and a Greg's Guitars clip of him playing the Texas Flood... Here we go.

Right on BM! Can't wait to hear more about it! Congrats!!!

I know a lot of you guys are going, WAIT MAN, this is a jazz site. You all are interested in clean very articulate amps - that's the beauty of these, you don't push them to overdrive they are VERY articulate. With the FUCHS ODS amps I have I learned that. Can't tell you how many times I would locate a Blackface Fender Deluxe Reverb and consider sending off to Andy to do his thing with. Here's a link to the Sebago Overdrive Deluxe page.

And I got the tube specs from the builder:
---------
Here's the tube information for each of the amps:
Texas Flood - five 12AX7, two 12AT7 and two 6L6GC power tubes
Overdrive Deluxe - five 12AX7, one 12AT7 and two 6V6 power tubes
I use JJ tubes for the 12AX7 and 12AT7 preamp tubes, sound great and are very reliable
I use either JJ or Tube Amp Doctor 6L6, and Tung Sol 6V6
----------
Still aren't sure what a cleaner Texas Flood style amp sounds like, check out this SRV video, it better put a smile on your face. Reminds me all too much of being married. EEEEKKKKKK !!!!!!!!

Ya gotta hear these things to believe
Looking at the tube compliments the Texas Flood is very Fenderish in it's use of tubes, 50 watts.
The Overdrive Deluxe is what it implies, a Deluxe Reverb that's been modded, keep that signal clean and you have all the dynamics of a Dumble amp with the Deluxe Reverb chime and that Fender 3 spring reverb.
I will have to get my neighbor to film me in the office playing the Byrdland or Super Eagle thru one of them. I don't Johnny Smith, I tend to do songs like Sam & Dave or other 60s based stuff. But when I want to do jazz the L-5 or Johnny Smith will sound quite lush.

Anyone else see an issue here? Here are a couple of clues: "copied the circuit" and "a whole bunch of clones ensued".

Guitarbean25,
LAWD have Mercy he is so good. There's a whole planet of D style amps out there, that's for sure. Thanks for sharing that video, he's quite the player. I recognized that left eye look, I get it sometimes, he likely lost sight in that eye. He sure doesn't let it stop him a picking and a grinning...

Yah. He's def smokin'
He's considered blind for the most part. Degenerative disease I think. Guy is a true guitar player.

OK Big~ I have one word for your latest acquisitions..................DIBS!!
Call me after you wipe the slobber off of your mouth from playing through those amazing amps.
A buddy of mine, Terry Hiatt did the demos for Sebago. And man can he make them sing!

The American Eagle sounds nice and fat with the settings the way it arrived out of the box.

Got a call back from Bill of Sebago Sound last night. He walked me through how to set up the amp to get a very expressive sound. Great guy. Turns out Sebago (of Sebago Sound) is a lake in Maine he grew up on. So he said to crank the Volume near the input jack at about 2 o'clock and the Master at about 8 o'clock. The Filter knobs are click stopped at each number. It's not a distortion amp at all, very high fidelity. It's still early here and I can't wait to try her out once I see all my little old lady neighbors talking their morning walks. Here's a shot of how he thinks I should try it out with an arch top.

So the place is all sparkly clean and it's late enough in the day to play. Using pretty much the settings you see above I got out the American Eagle and plugged her in - making double damn sure I didn't have that Master turned up when I flipped the Standby switch. Four or five times with different guitars on the Fuchs I'd flip that switch and the arch top and amp did this sympathetic vibration howl that scared the crap out of my next door neighbor Marion, a great old lady... So with that in mind I put the Texas Flood on "the BigBench" and played the above Stevie Ray tunes... Had the volume on the guitar turned down all the way and slowly worked it up - got that amazing fake out sound where you hear the amp thru the f-holes of the guitar and then played a bit. Not bad, BUT I knew there was something else. So I teased the volume knob up some more and more until all of a sudden there is that glassy Stevie Ray tone... remember there's a truck load of 12AX7s an 2 6L6's in this crate. Man is it nice. Gotta try out a set in the top humbucker next. If you get a chance and can find a dealer or store with one in house take YOUR ARCHTOP along and see what I am talking about...

Open and airy, but able to get mean ... great tubes. Do you know the brands in yours?

DUDE...Big Mike...as much as you've invested in guitars and the amp, it's all for nothing unless you plug it all through a Fryette Power Station. One of the best and transparent attenuators in the market.
You retain the tone and more importantly, feel of the amp at much more reasonable volumes.
You'll be able to go even higher on the master and perhaps compensate more or less with the preamp as well.
I (try) to play jazz through a Fryette Deliverance 120 that has beautiful and pristine cleans but it needs to be cranked...no way possible without the PS.Last edited by Guitarbean25; 10-12-2016 at 02:17 AM.

To Hell with attenuation!
