Joe D. Shipped his DA to me today. He graciously gave me time to sell a few guitars to buy his DA. I sold 4 guitars and an amp to make this happen. Well worth it to me.

I ask that each of you reading this thread pray to the diety of your choice for a safe journey for this incredible guitar.

Her sisters and step sister await her arrival:

    1935 D'Angelico Excel-image-jpg

    Left to right: 48 D'Angelico Style B, 93 Heritage built D'Angelico II New Yorker, 37 D'Angelico Style A

I will do a nice NGD thread a day or two after she arrives (next week)

Stay tuned and thanks for the good thoughts!

    Cheers to all,

    Marc (Marco to my friends)

    Marc,

You will be in possession of the best collection of D'Angelico guitars of anyone I know. Fantastic.

    That's cool isn't it?

I was really excited to move the D'Angelico Excel to Marc. First off, he was willing to come up with the money (hey, what can I say, I'm not gonna lie..). Second, the world of Elite Vintage guitars needs people like Marc around. He is a heavy hitter, not a heavy breather. Being out there, playing these guitars in front of 1,000's people at a time keep the world of vintage guitars alive and also, it helps put premium sound in peoples ears.

No doubt, this guitar is ABSOLUTELY in the best hands possible now.

    Thanks Marc.

Wait a minute !!! I just put two and two together. If Joe already sold you the HDANY and now this he must be getting ready to buy half of Chicago, or at least the politicians.

Yep, My DA's all get used on gigs. Great guitars should be shared. I am fortunate that I am the custodian of these amazing guitars and hope that my public performances help keep our art alive in some small way. I hope that somewhere, John D'Angelico, the Stradivarius of the guitar is smiling with approval.

What a thrill to see a portion of your collection and the excellent news about the new addition Marco! And of course double the kudos for being out there performing with them. Massive talent combined with the Stradivarius of guitars-unbeatable combination.

I'm firmly in the camp of actually performing with guitars that have high value. I do get the collector thing, but it just seems like such a waste to keep a magnificent instrument penned up. Now I don't advocate being stupid about it or careless, however with some reasonable precautions and planning it keeps them alive and vibrant.

Play the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks out of it!

    Marc,
You have been a silent Hi-ranking official of the Nut Bag society since the date of its inception, Mr 22 Guitars... No application necessary for you. You should be praised for what you have done to keep the D'Angelico name so prominent, despite the efforts of Pisani and Ferolito (the bad golfing ice tea guy) to water it down so much it should now be called "DandnoweverywhereyoulookyouseeanimitationD'Angeli co..."

Mikey, you bought all the other nice guitars left in the world so I cant buy anything else.. I'm taking up another instrument, and I'm not telling you what it is until I rat-hole a couple..

Just playin. You guys are the best.

Thanks Joe. I am down to 18 guitars after this purchase (more than enough) and am glad to be one of the Nut Bags.

Life is short and it IS later than you think, so get the guitars of your dreams and go out and play them!

For a second there, I was considering calling a special meeting of the D'A club to consider a take down of fws6 as our fearless leader, but then I took a second look at that 'pretender' in the middle.
    A Heritage!
You have five minutes to separate that pretender from the two Princes on either side of him, or we're going to have to call our West Coast Enforcer, Mundell Lowe, to physically separate said pretender!
Mundell may be in his 90s, but he still packs a mean right hook, so I wouldn't consider this an idle threat.

Joe D. can testify to his recent bout with ML when ML made a special trip to the East Coast to strip him of his rank.

So the amended roll call for this chapter is as follows:

    fws (President) 4 DA's + 2 D'AQs
SS (Vice President) 3 DA's (one incoming)
Deacon Mark (Spiritual Advisor/Emergency Repairman) 1
    Winter Moon (Field Soldier) 1
    S. Longobardi (Financial Advisor) 1(?)
    hot ford coupe 1
Me (Toilet Cleaner at HQ) 1

I met Mundell at a recording session a couple of years ago. He borrowed my Clarus/RE rig for the session (His favorite amp and mine). Super nice guy. And his vision is less than stellar these days...I'd look for a new enforcer. So are we down to 6 members here? Now that Vinny has sold his DAQ and Joe D. Has sold his DA, the club is getting pretty small...

    Small but mighty!

Marc, that will mean that you will have 3 real D'As. That's too much guitar inequality. I only have one. I'll take the one in the middle.

All kidding aside, I pray that the guitar arrives at your house in perfect shape with no surprises except how good it will sound when you first play it. You're extremely lucky to be the steward of that many outstanding instruments. I look forward to NGD. If you can, put in a clip of you playing it.
