Les Paul Studio Faded 2016 vs Telecaster Mexico-image-jpg

Here is my Les Paul Studio, dressed up in about $30 worth of Gibson cosmetic pieces.
I get compliments on it's look, and the guys in the band like the sound better than the [much more expensive] archtops - go figure!
We do play some blues as well as straight ahead jazz, though.

I got it because it was taking me in new directions on old songs the first time I played it in the shop.

For recording blues, and for my tastes, the neck pickup with guitar volume on 8 & the Champ turned up to 7 is one of the best blues tones I've heard. No pedals needed.

The fingerboard of my Ibanez artcore custom is a little rough too; can you tell it is a similar quality level?
Are you sure you tested the latest 2016 models?

I have a VERY light touch. The sustain of a Les Paul is incredible for me. It made soloing to backing tracks pretty much effortless for my style. The guitar cut through everything. It was thick yet warm, and very convincing as a Jazz Guitar. I am not a tall guy, and the LP is made to be played standing up. Best of all, I had no worry about feedback, regardless of my playing position. After all these years, I am still surprised LP's aren't used more often in a Jazz setting.
The cheaper LP's are pretty much the same as the more expensive ones. The recipe is similar and, well, perfect. But I am very picky about having white or cream bindings on the neck, so I because of that reason, I sort of require an upscale model.

    Good Luck.
By the way, I never had a Tele. I have a Strat now. I use it about once a year..

    Ok 2 things

    1. Singing?! Yes please on your next video (Can I request 'Sunny' or 'When sunny gets blue')

    2. If you have a light touch playing a solid body will be passable imo and I would chose a Les because of the deeper tone. So I can see exactly where you're coming from. Also the added sustain enhances the lighter touch you have so great combination.

If you bought an older japans copy for peanuts, you could get a sandwich version which is kind of hollow inside. They sound like a thin line tele but with darker pups would make a more convincing semi sound. That is also why the Scandinavian guy who plays a black Ari pro II sounds so good. His Les is basically a semi hollow old Japanese sandwich type.

    Mm now Im hungry.

Yes, I specically sought out the new 2016's. My wife's Ibanez Talman has a better looking fingerboard than the Gibby 2016's. Just my opinion.
