A new limited run from Epiphone. A viable alternative to the ES175 Pro, for those who prefer P90's. Nice to see the old Gibson Walnut finish getting an airing again too.

    Epiphone Ltd. Ed. ES-295 Premium

Lose the Bigsby and the horrible pickguard and these would be more appealing to me... I love the Walnut!

Agree with Aloha, not feeling the Bigsby, maybe a trapeze tailpiece ?
    Sweet, thanks for posting !

gold 295 is iconic via scotty moore...but i don't get why they put a b70 bigsby on it...now its got two holes drilled right into the top..very hard to cover with any kind of non bigsby/trapeze tailpiece

usually an archtop like that would call for a b6 bigsby...that needs no drilling..weird!

    and goin for $1000 usa

    cheers

I know it's cosmetic, but I just hate the oversized and oddly positioned f holes. That's why I sold my 175 Premium.

I tried one of these a few years back....

A Peerless Gigmaster SC. This was way back before price hike.

I was plinking and plunking the SC and really enjoying it. After I tried a new Gibson ES 175 and couldn't bond with it.
I came .....{} this close to buying the SC. £595 with case! Damn I wish I did.

The 'F' holes on the SC are so much more elegant than the Epi.

But I'm thinking the Epi would be cheaper than the SC nowadays.

Scratch around for a s/hand SC and it will be a good deal!

I agree. Why can't they get those right? Actually the whole body shape is just off... Maybe it's on purpose to distinguish them from the real thing?

+1 on that. The older Korean Epiphone ES-295 and Zephyr Regent were much closer to the USA built forms than the current offerings. They must have tooled up specifically for these current builds.

He did say the older Korean. Perhaps a change of factory or specs per Gibson's request.....I personally have not make the comparison.

$999 street and no case...Pass. The Walnut finish looks spiffy though. But why the gold-plated hardware? Cheesy.

$695 plus case and nicer looking f-holes and cutaway: https://reverb.com/item/1587876-epip...lent-condition Ooookay, hole in the rim where someone tried to mount a neck strap button.

Pass... and let me count thy ways: gold hardware, matte finish, goofy pickguard, the usual too-narrow and too-tall Epi headstock, Bigsby.

So many of Epiphone's otherwise inexplicable decisions can be understood in light of the following: (1) they're deathly afraid of cannibalizing Gibson sales; (2) they don't want people modding Epiphones into counterfeit Gibsons. That's why Epi f-holes, headstocks, and other details often diverge from Gibsons.

And then this one has the knobs in the same position as a Les Paul not a 295. Why they can't just make them accurate? They do a good job with Les Pauls and such....

I like their Sorrento, the Riviera with the Mini HBs and the 61 Casinos and the Sheraton with the Mini HBs. the rest are just sort of odd copies.

What a sexy beast. If Epiphone would just make the thing right they'd sell 'em hand over fist.

I changed a B6 to my older ES-295 (Peerless factory, 2006) - covers the drilling holes nicely. Yes - and I changed the Bigsby because I didn't understand why a B7 -type... New Epiphone ES-295 Premium.-snv10567-2-jpg

I disagree with the idea that the new Epi ES 295 is less authentic-looking that the 90s version. I have owned both the 90s version Epiphone made of the ES-295, and the current Limited Edition. The new model looks, sounds much closer to a Gibson. They got the color much closer to the bronze shade of the 50s models. The body is deeper than they older Epi verison, and the pick ups are Gibson USA made P-90s which are fantastic.

If you have the chance to actually compare the old and new Epi es 295 in your hands, and naked eye, you will see the new version is closer to the original Gibson model. The body depth is deeper now, and the color far more accurate than the mustard yellow they used in the 90s. The pick ups are Gibson USA P 90s and are first - rate.
