I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time trying to make this Gibson into a jazz guitar... Is it too tinny sounding?

I think it sounds great, but more relevant is the question if YOU think it sounds thin. Try it through a Polytone and I'm sure it will sound a lot fatter.

sounds great, not sure why these are not more popular. The humbucker version would be cool.
btw is that the drummer from Radiohead? lol

I'm more worried about your drink perched on top of your amp!

Sounds good to me! Your play is very musical.

Is that a solid-state amp? How about your other youtube posts, solid state?

    Thanks & good fortune.

Thanks! I can't wait to play it through my recently acquired Fender Princeton Reverb II once I get it fixed up.

At louder gigs it tend to fall off by the end of the night...

The amp is a Roland Cube 60 in most, if not all my youtube videos. I hope to change that with my Princeton Reverb II!

I've been using d'addario 12-52 rounds on it so far. Thinking of trying some TI swing to see what that will do for the sound.

it's not thin but it's not as fat as it could sound. chuck the flats with a thick pick through a polytone

That Princeton II should offer a lot of potential.
My experience with Rivera Fenders (but not including, curiously, the Princeton II)
is that there is still treble to be tamed but there is much sweetness in there.

    Enjoy!

Please offer a report when you get it running, thanks.

Cool thanks! I'm thinking of having the deluxe mod done to it also since I won't ever be using the drive channel..

Don't (but should) know about the 'deluxe mod' you mentioned.

    Will investigate. Thanks.

Oooooooh, this will challenge my digestion.

    Thank you!

    While I'm here...

I am trying to learn to control the sound of my attack using my fretting hand
and timed with my picking. Pick choice helps me too.
I am trying to round out my tone, which is part of this thread.

Do you consider or employ this, does anyone, or am I simply off-course?

I liked your playing a lot. Very smooth with clean technique and groove - well done!

In my book that ES 390 did not sound bad at all. It had a somewhat bright tone that, however, did cut through very nicely. I did not hear anything boomy or piercing. A pleasant sound to the listener. Of course, the amp is a big component of the tone and maybe it will sound warmer with a tube amp. But I would certainly not be worried that the guitar sounds bad.

Sounds good to me. And great playing. I have a P90 guitar myself and I like to have my P90 a little bit closer to the strings. Maybe you want to try this. Perhaps a thicker pick and maybe you want to try some pure nickel strings.

But to be honest you don't need to change anything if you ask me. I don't see a reason why a jazz guitar isn't allowed to sound a little bit more bright.

It definitely has an impact how you hold the pick. I have noticed that I tend to tuck it in a bit much and tense up. Then there is too much motion going on. If I hold the pick further out towards the tip of my index finger, I relax more and there is less motion. However, the tone changes also. There is a middle way that I'm looking for
