I like

Is it my eyes, or does it look smaller across the lower bout than the standard 175? Clearly, with the G-string saddle set so far back towards the tailpiece, Gibson will be sending it from the factory with skinny strings--.10s, I would guess. Rock on!
-
another angle..
i like this one sb
cheers

Neck pick-up is closer Then 175 one. More like a tal Farlow
-
It looks like it has the depth of a 335
-
Very Nice, seems a bit thinner as well!

Looks like the sunburst has ebony fingerboard. It sounds a bit brighter also than the faded cherry one. Some really cool guitars! I feel it coming... GAS
-
That looks pretty cool ...
-
That sunburst one looks particularly nice.
-
Nice, it is thin like a L5CT, the red one is a great color but I prefer the fancier headstock inlay and old school 175 tailpiece of the burst version (also the ebony fingerboard).
-
Yes the cherry sounded much warmer, rosewood against the ebony. They are both beautiful. A tough choice for someone to make. Thanks Neatomic.

I wonder what the price range is.
Also, I wonder what demographic Gibson is targeting. Do they feel that they need to always release new designs to get attention and go for guys with bad GAS? Or do they feel that they're meeting a need not already met?
Either way, sign me up for a cherry with an ebony board.
The "worn" and rounded neck sides don't seem important to me. Fresh, sharper edges have never bothered me yet.
-
they've got 17th fret body joins ....
caught up with Hofner ?
-
Whoa, a new guitar from gibson that isn't batshit crazy or sack of hammers stupid.
Maybe they do read Internet forums.
Very cool guitar. I'd play one of those in a heartbeat!
-
Peter Griffin on/ Yeah….. /Peter Griffin off
Gibson makes more archtops in a day than Hofner does in a year.
16th fret neck-body joint?
Smallish body (16" or a bit less)?
Thinline?
Hollow?
2xpups, 2xvol, 2xtone, 1x3-way switch?
floating bridge and trapeze tailpiece?
22-fret neck?
Excellent idea, IMO.
Been there, done that.

it may be a nice guitar but will it be justified for the price?
-
Of course, it's a Gibson.

Well all I can say even though they may high priced, you get what you pay for. I just bought a 2015 Historic 1963 Figured ES-335 Cherry finish. And I'll go as far as to say it is among the best ES-335 I've ever played new or vintage. And being 58 years old I've owned quite a few vintage ES models including a 1959 ES-355 Mono.
I also have a wonderful Benedetto Bambino, and Elferink Tonemaster, Martin OM 21 Special, 1996 Parker Fly Classic, etc. So I'm not just a Gibson fanboy, but they truly are making some incredible instruments at the present time.
-
I thought both guitars sounded fine. They are being marketed expressly to younger people who are interested in jazz. Seems like Gibson is doing its homework. Those instruments should fit the bill for younger folks who are looking for something less foreign and scary than a Super 400, Tal Farlow, or L-5CES to begin a jazz romance with.
If you have nothing but a solid-body guitar experience to draw upon, even a 335 can seem like Plan 9 from Outer Space.
-
most of the time...not all the time. there are some pretty bad gibsons out there that carry the same price tag as good ones, which is bad if you buy over the internet and you can't test the product first.
