Segovia declared his Hauser as the Guitar Of The Century, and Bream's Hauser the second. Both used theirs for many years.

Steve's adjectives are right on the money regarding D'Angelico's guitars...magical...rich piano like tone...incomparable...yep, spot on...
SS, as usual you are a big help. Its good to know he only lost his pen in 1935 and not his chisels..

Stevie, That is GREAT! See, we have guitars that are related now. But remember, 95% of the tone comes from the man playing it. So while your guitar carries those beautiful adjectives, my guitar will probably carry adjectives like, "awful...Annoying screechy like tone...incomprehensible..
    Very cool. JD

    Heaven, Joe D's in heaven
Or at least he will be in a week
He'll have found the happiness he seeks
When Joe D gets to hear his Excel speak

    Hang in there buddy ...

Well not really.. The Guitar has me a lot more excited. One thing. Buying something this expensive is stressful. No sleep last 2 nights and you can fry an omelet on my head.

One thing I will say, The Seller, Darren Hippner is terrific!
He is a luthier up in Washington State (yeah he said its raining right now) and he does beautiful work. He is a GREAT Guy!

    Thanks bros.
    Joe D.
I go away for a few days and what's this?! You're buying a Masterpiece sight unseen, created by the greatest of the greats, and the guitar is near my town!?

Oh boy, this thread just got fun!

That was beautiful. I hope the "speaking" of his Excel isn't the sound of a pipe bomb that Darren decided to rig inside the guitar case.. Then your lyrics will be pretty accurate!
Thanks Chris. That was great man.

Darren is well known as a classical and flamenco guitar builder. He's not obscure at all. Interesting that he got his hands on a D'A! Possibly a trade for a newly built instrument? Who knows. I'm sure you're in fine hands.

Congratulations Joe! That is something mighty special. I considered on several occasions running up there to check it out myself. It is a testimony to this forum and the strength of community. It's great to be part of it and I appreciate your sharing your experience, since it becomes ours as well, and makes it so others enjoy as well. I sure do. Thank you brother! You're awesome.

Hey RP, He bought both Guitars (the Excel and the Style A) at the same, and I don't believe on a trade. He had some real beauties that he told me he went to school on the DA's, Stromberg, and Triggs. He's a one man show. Its really cool, he is spraying 24 builds today. I told him to make sure he's wearing his mask..

Sky, No man you are awesome. That's a nice post right there. People like you make it real easy to be nice around here. Ill say it once again. You guys take an already good experience and make it even better. Every once in a while you get a stick in the mud and that's life. I appreciate everyone here making my experience that much better.

No, I never heard of him. Point Roberts...no wonder I never heard of him...that's about as far west as you can be from New Jersey. It's a ferry ride or a trip into Canada and a passport to even get there. Kewl, no Customs hassle even though in reality that location is like being on the British Columbia mainland. I hope for you and the guitars sake you're going FedEx 3day air...

    AG,
I haven't slept in 3 days. I have a massive headache and I look like shit.
    I don't think I'm gonna make it.
I'm kidding about the not making it part.

This is very exciting and stressful at the same time.

I feel your stress all the way here in Ca. Guitar shipping is very stressful for me too even before the BooBoo incident.
Sounds like you are dealing with a real stand up guy though. 2 DA's in a month. Your wife is a saint. I would have 2 big lumps on my head.

Be careful Joe - -you don't want to risk messin' with all that Italian karma.

(( " I can't figure it out -- these Italian guys get the pretty girls AND the heirloom instruments with lineage going back to the old country, and then they want to risk it all by converting ? " ))

OK, Joe, so the Jewish jokes may be better ( Seinfeld ), but c'mon, it's only a week.

So, here's to all the best with the D'Angelico's Joe, and sincerely:

    " Cent' anni " and

    " Mazel tov "
