    I can think of one situation where an archtop is needed and a Tele doesn't cut it: Freddie Green style chunk-chunk-chunk. If you have video that shows how to do this with a Tele post it here!

    Now Ed Bickert played with a big band, the Boss Brass, but they were more modern and his comping was pianistic.

    I'm guessing that Boss Brass were pianoless. Then Ed could get away with his pianistic approach to comping.

    best thing is, op split after his one and only post 6 months ago..and yet we fight on!! thread lives!.. haha

    tele is never to be underestimated...a bit higher action and flats takes it to another place..

    or other tricks:

    just watched this new tim lerch video..not a pure jazz demo..but listen to all the different tones that come out of it, and imagine if it was

    They usually have a piano. I just mean Ed's playing wasn't four to the bar.
