I've used linear pots for tone to great effect on many guitars using phat orange drop caps and old PIO caps that were 2 for £1!

Here's an example of a phat cap on a Squier jazzmaster. It has sucked all the stray high frequencies on the rhythm circuit and is much better than the original cap (to these ears anyway).
The lead circuit on this guitar has linear volume and tone pots, but mixed and reduced values from stock. Volume @ 500k and tone @ 250k.
Interplay between the two is very 'organic' at louder volume

The Epi Emp Reg had loads of issues that I've sorted out; really, lots of issues. The electronics will be the next part of the project once funds permit.

Cheaper pots on electric guitar circuits can really let a perfectly good instrument down-whether it's linear or audio.

I personally don't mind the tone rolloff as you turn the volume control down on an archtop. For a solidbody where I'm playing funk rhythm I don't like it as much.
