If you were to take the tube amp(s) you like most for playing jazz, fusion, jam, jazz blues, jazz rock, etc., for live or studio purposes, what amp(s) would you choose?

Limitations: this does not include amps for practice-only use; your choice is WITHOUT regard to amp weight...just assume you have roadies

    Mesa Express 5:50

One of the best "do it all" Amps.

I have a Fryette Memphis 30 and I am quite happy with it
The only limitation to "do it all" is not in the amp but in the guitar player; lol !

Dreaming? Then I have a cartage company, too. So, it would be a Fender Twin Reverb--minty, from back in the day.

If dreams don't come with cartage, then I guess it would be a mint, mic'ed Fender Deluxe (tweed).

Wait! If dreams really do come true then it would be a mint, vintage Standel 25L15. Even the Beatles tried to buy Grady Martin's Standel (in the 1963 Roy Orbison/Beatles Tour of England).

So, a world with roadies also means a world with an actual sound 'guy' which also means that amps are mic'd and you have good stage monitors and sound, so then almost any size amp can work

Unfortunately, I live in a world where I carry what I play, so that's all I know. My most versatile amp is my Tech 21 Trademark 60, yes, I know it's not a tube amp but what sound are you looking for... seriously, just dial it in...

I already have my dream amp: Princeton. For larger venues, mic it. For distortion needs, use pedals -- I'm partial to the Mad Professor Royal Blue OD and EQD Hoof.

I did an anti-rattle mod on mine the other day: I removed the back panels. Works like a charm!

+1 on the vintage Blackface Twin Reverb, so long as I do not have to carry it. If I am carrying it, a vintage Blackface Deluxe Reverb will do. It will need to sound reinforcement for the bigger venues, but these days they all have PA's, so no problem.

Forget about the reissues. They do not sound like the originals IMO...

This might be so for the Deluxe, but my PRRI sounds just like my old '65 I used to own in college.

It'd have to be the same for me. Love the clarity.

I dig my current tube amps: a Richter RS-33 (6L6) and a Jack Anderson (6V6).

[Although both makers have combos, mine are amp heads; I use several different cabs depending on my needs.]

Mesas all day for me -- I always think of late '70s Robben Ford and Larry Carlton rigs (usually with the ES-335s) when thinking about fusion tones. Although, I can get similar tones with Fender clean channels and a DS-1 or a Rat.

that's why I love my kemper. It can literally sound like any of my dream amps and the repertoire continues growing.

My ideal would be a line of simple amps, all with a good tube clean sound (perhaps a bit "scooped" sounding), and built in reverb and tremolo. Ideally, the same basic pre-amp would be wedded to a few different models of different power levels and power tube configuratuons (e.g., 6v6 and 6l6). The lower powered ones would get a nice overdriven blues tone when cranked; the higher power ones would stay clean pretty much all the way up. For any of them, you could vary the distortion possibilities via pedals. A few different speaker configurations would be available. All of this would enable me to have a couple of variants on the same basic flavor, scaleable to meet different musical settings. Hmmm, I wondering if there is such a product line? Has there ever been a company that does this. Thinking, thinking .... who could possibly have thought of this?

If it were just Jazz, that'd be my Starlite currently being assembled. Considering all three styles, I agree with any mention of the Mesa Express+ series. I'm particularly fond of the 5:25.

I really like my 5e3, but I love 10" speaker and especially 2x10 configuration, that's why I would love to have a brownface super amp. Well I know most you prefer blackface circuits and I can enjoy them as well, but the older circuits seem to have more mids and I like that a lot.

recently found one of these German made Engl thunder 50's 50W 1x12 combo...nice spring reverb
i only use the clean channel and after battling with headroom issues on larger stages for years with smaller tube amps like princeton (which i still think is tonally my idea of a perfect tube amp) but this amp stays clean sounds warm and fender"y" if there's such a word ...and endless headroom for cleans ....

and did i mention it weighs the same as a princeton or very close to and offers 4x the power so very portable as tube amps go

i initially saw it as a heavy metal amp.... until i tried it .... the engineer in the studio said he thought it wa a very transparent sound.... and we record it wth a mic in front and it sounds awesome ...also pretty quiet for studio when idling when compared to other 50 w tube amps...and the pre and post volume allows breakup at low volume and the 2nd channel (drive) is awesome if you like drive very rich ....

    Interesting Keira!
I've never played one, but on the paper it is very impressing! The next time I'm in a music store I'm going to check one of them out, all though I have to admit that I'm really satisfied with my 2 amps right now.
