I am still very much in love with my Twin Reverb (I play Gibson ES-333). But lately I changed the circuit of my '93 Fender Blues Deluxe, put a Jensen Neo 12-100 speaker in it and boy does this amp sound good now! (Changing the circuit cost me maybe $5 in parts.) It does it all: jazz, blues, pop, soul. I think it's now my new favorite tube amp.

I own my dream amp, vintage 68 Fender DR, it gets the tones I love at the volumes I like to gig with. But, I just did a big multi band outdoor roots music gig with Fender SCXD line out to PA, and the sound made all the other guitarists jealous.

I think these threads would have a lot more use if there were videos/sounds so future readers and searchers could HEAR what these sound like in a jazz setting.

I'm still caught between a few different amps. I think the Vintage Sound amps with the JZ circuit from Sound Island music may be just the ticket for a less glassy/bright fender tone that's purpose built for jazz and clean head room. Also take pedals well. I know Michael is always tweeking his amps to make them perfect. Super quiet as well.

Off the shelf amp? I like the Rivera Jazz Suprema with a 12 or a 15. A bit dark but I dig that sound.

I still believe the Princeton reverb is THEE tone just not enough watts for clean head room.

No Joke I've had a small mountain of killer amps from 1935-1975, Ampeg to Webb.

    I'd take any Fender from 55 thru 1960. If I didn't have to pay for it a 5E8A Twin pushing 4 P10Q's or C10Q's.

I had one of the original Standel 25L15's, a 54. Great sounding amp but at the same time I had a 58 Bassman, still completely stock sonically. That with a Fender reverb in front of it, sounded better to me.
But hey what sounds great to one might not to another.

I like those HA Dumble clones from Ceriatone. They are like a Fender Twin on steroids. Big round warm straightahead clean tones. The OD is pretty good for the EEee-eeeee-EEee fusion-y stuff too. Have heard them played by the fusion guys but I'm not into fusion so I don't care about the OD. 50W plus an EVM12L loaded cab will do ya.

When I find the scratch, a Lazy J 40 tweed amp is on the cards. The Lazy J sounds...organic, not like a box of electronics at all.

Lest I forget, David Barnes's Vintage 47 Amps deserve a mention for that "old world" jazz vibe. A one-trick pony perhaps but what a trick. David Barnes is retiring from the amp-building biz. so get them while you can.
