I am new to this forum. I had two excellent teachers Jimmy Bruno and very briefly Jack Wilkins. Bruno's lesson (in his house not on line) was done unplugged Jimmy on his Roger I on whatever. He had this funny looking amp on the floor that looked like ( boy he's got an old piece of shit there). When I started going to his performances lo and behold there was that amp. And then I realized that this was no ordinary amp that could easily fill a hall. That was the Hendrickson first model sans reverb. I still have it having bought one. Great little amp. Jack Wilkins teaches plugged in in his apartment in NYC. I don't think he takes private students but after he heard what Jimmy charged for a lesson I was in. He teaches plugged in and is extremely cool. He just loves to play including classical. He uses a AER Acoustic amp to teach. His student guitar which he lets you play is a 90s Tal Farlow. Well holy shite. What a sound. It was the little one of the AER line and wow. So of course I had to have that. Later on I bought a high end effects AER used! For 2300. The AER amps are tiny with a big sound. And a big price. Both of these amps are just dynamite. So now after this announcement I have to get a newer Hendricksen. Hope this is of interest.

Wow, sounds like they heard the criticisms and responded

...and some extra features as well...

I did all those mods (except new power amp and 7.2k treble) to my Henriksen head. Glad they improved the amp!
-
What's the new power ? It was not clear on the website.
-
135w
-
i think 7.2k is still too high for a treble control. I had my AI Corus amp modified to have it's treble control lowered to 7.2k. I did an experiment recently where I played notes on the high E string on my Guild X-500 and had a friend of mine rotated the treble control all the way up and all the way down and neither of us could hear any difference. Note: That amp has a full frequency range all the way up to 20k so if the frequencies are there, the amp's going to reproduce it. (IOW, it's not a speaker issue)
OTOH, I have not tried this henriksen so perhaps it works better in person than on paper.
From my experience, none of the jazz guitar amps have a proper treble control. Of course, it's easy enough to use a fender style preamp or barber barb EQ in front of the amp but IMO, you shouldn't have to.

Were they 100 W before ? 35 W addition is very insignificant in my opinion.

Yes, it was 120W, which was already a lot in my opinion.
They added about 12%, which amounts to adding 14,4 W to 120 W ---> about 135 W.

So, is this Accutronics BTDR-2-S reverb supposed to be much better than the one they put so far?
-
that is the reverb module that was developed by neunaber which is VERY GOOD.
-
Evans has 500 W on tap for about the same weight but a little more expensive. The reverb of the new Henriksen may be a bit better though. Hmmmm.

IMO, a good user interface for an amp should be, set all the controls at 12 O'Clock. It should sound good that way. Then you tweak the individual treble, mid , bass, gain to suit your needs.

Curious what folks think of 'The Bud'?
-
Good to know, I like the middy tone of my Polytone but I don't find it nasal. When I tried the RE300 traveling amp, I did not hear the nasally tone. Also, it has an effect loop which can be used to bypass the preamp (which kind of defeats the purpose).

7.2k is the "presence" control. 3k is the "treble." I think the idea is to use the 7.2k knob as a tweeter vol. Sorta. The Raezer ER cabs have a vol control for the tweeter. I think it works well. with magnetic pickups you barely hear any difference. Just a touch of crystal clarity. But with piezo, mics, etc, it makes a noticeable difference.

The speaker I'm currently using in my mambo has a freq response of 50hz-3.8k. 7.2k ain't gonna do much for it. A presence control is not just a high treble control.

I am not saying it is all in the wattage however. My goal is follow Jim Hall's strategy: the louder the amp the softer I can play (hopefully with less noise floor)

Do they currently sell *500 models? Home | Evans Custom Amplifiers
