If you are playing in a ballroom full of dancers, then that is going to require the twin, in my experience. Big rooms are one thing, but a big room full of bodies on a dance floor is not your typical "jazz amp" gig at all. That is very similar to rock band volumes with 18 pieces.

I have done many hundreds of such gigs my my AI combos and have never felt the need for a larger amp:

Fine, but the AI combos, depending on model, can put out 300W +, which brings us back to the original issue raised by the OP. The amps he was suggesting as possible subs just don't have the power of the AI.

It also depends what style you're playing; a different level is required for clean lead lines as opposed to 4-in-the-bar rhythm.

I agree with CG that an 18 piece at full blast, can be extremely loud. Ear-ringingly loud.

I think I may have found a solution. I remembered I have an old Yamaha vr6000 in the basement. Totally forgot about it. Now if I can convince the Elks Lodge to let me store it there... I'll never have to lug an smp there again and the VR is plenty loud enough. It's basically a Roland JC180 copy.

But what about that Crock-Pot? What's going to happen to that?

I was more interested in the bottle of wine(?) hidden behind the pots.

Something tells me he already has a plan for that.

That's 15 yr old Ron Rico rum. Forgot about that too. Thanks guys.

i put both amps next to each other and was able to get a respectable "Twin" sound from the Yamaha though you can really hear the "thinness" in the the single string playing when compared side by side with the Twin. But, the Yamaha is half the weight and would just roll into and out of a closet. That a no brainier for me.
