They just got in a 2013 NOS "Regular" ES175. They said it was perfect so I bought it sight unseen. Wanted a 2 pup 175 that's not a '59 VOS. Wish me luck, never bought a guitar mail order with a tailight guarantee.
    Fingers and toes crossed.........Vinny

A little nervous but heard that EDDIE's Guitars is a high end boutique guitar seller. I tried to ask a few questions about the 175 and they said "look we are not Guitar Center, we don't sell junk". Got it for $2750 which seems like a great price for a unplayed 2013 with the plastic protection still on the pickguard. Will get it on Friday.

I've never done business with Eddie's either. But, if I got a response like . . . "look, we are not GC, we don't sell junk", in response to questions asked due to my apprehension about buying sight unseen. Is it posssible the comment was taken out of context . . either by you when you heard it . . or by me when I read it as you posted it?? If it had a little chuckle at the end .. instead of a snide vocal inflection, then maybe the guy on the phone was just being a fun seeking bone-head, much like I often do?

I just can't say enough for places and guys like Dave at Dave's . . or Lance at Wildwood. The amount of time and professional courtesy they give their customers . . and/or potential customes on the phone to ease their concerns and help them overcome their apprehensions is beyond commendable. I can assure you this, vinny . . if you bought that guitar from a dealer like one of those I mentioned above . . you'd not have your fingers crossed while you waited for the guitar to arrive. You be quite comfortable that you'll be very satisfied and confident that when the guitar arrived at your home . . it will be exactly as described . . (unless of course UPS or FedEx destroys it).

However, if on the other hand . . you expressed you "passion" for Gibson as a bad company . . . and enumerated the long list of Gibson mis-ques and returns from your ledger, as you did during our discussion on "that other thread" . . well, then I'd have probably also told you . . "look man . . we're not Guitar Center. We don't sell junk". I always live by the credo . . "how you shout to the mountain, is how it will come back to you".

Patrick I am actually a very polite guy. Yes I am a little gun shy buying Gibsons just because of my personal past experience. Don't get me wrong I love Gibsons when you get a good one. I was very polite with EDDIE's. Just asking questions anyone would ask buying a guitar unseen. When I got to my 3rd question the guy stopped me and said "look the guitar is perfect buy it or don't". I did research on them and they have a 100% satisfaction rating on ebay and good google reviews except saying how grouchy they are. He did get real nice when I said I would buy it. Mean doesn't bother me as long as you are truthful and honest. Patrick you can be a tad mean too but you are full of knowledge, know what you are talking about, and are honest so I let that dark part just roll off me also. I have heard a lot of good things about Wildwood. I always watch their Youtube videos. They always seem to get really nice Gibby's.

Mean?? "Moi"??? Not at all. Direct? yeah . . blunt??? yeah. But mean?? Not at all. I've been called quite a few things in my life, but never mean . . (except for once, by my daughter . . years ago, when she found out that the reason one of her boy friends ( a real dirt bag), never called her back was because I told him that if he ever hurt my little girl I'd run an ice pick through his ear into his brain. But, I digress)

But, again . . if my third question was met with a "look, the guitar is perfect, buy it or don't buy it" . . I would have told the guy . . "I'll take option number 2" . . and hung up the phone.

No wonder you now have your fingers crossed. You must be scared shit of what you'll have to deal with if the guitar does arrive with issues and you have to call this guy back for resolution. Why would you even deal with such an ass-hole when there are so many other wonderful 175s available from so many other wonderful dealers?

Vinny, rather surprised at the curt reply they gave you. I emailed Eddie's and a guy named Brett said how much he would like to ensure he had my business. He sounded earnest and willing to work for my custom. He didn't have anything that I really liked and I went elsewhere. He also said that he would match the lowest quotes I got. Those who have bought from Eddie's/Brett reported better prices for the 2013 R9 than I initially received from another dealer (in 2013). So, that corroborates the claim. Their prices are certainly better than the Big Four Gibson Indies. No complaints about shifty business practices either. They appear to be straight shooters and not pass off junk. Yes, okay, I also got the vibe that they do not like to waste time on tyre-kickers. I got some short shrift when I dawdled on making a decision. That was partly why I went to another dealer. I couldn't just drop $5000 without some hard consideration. (Gibson forbids Eddie's from displaying their stock online so you have to ask for a pdf of their Gibson Custom Shop stock to be emailed to you.)

That said, $2750 for a New Old Stock 2013 ES-175 Memphis (not that old, really) is a very good price, I feel. I see used non-vintage ones selling for a little lower, about $2250 to $2450.

I think you are safe dealing with Eddie's.

As for Wildwood you'd be lucky to get $200 off a $6299 MAP guitar. They do get very very nice guitars though. And I love their YT demos and Greg Koch. They know how to present their stuff and are very helpful and patient over the phone. These things come at a price. But you will very rarely be dissatisfied with the guitar you get.

I deal with 2 of the Big Four: Dave's in Wisconsin, and Rainbow in Arizona. TMZ...the less said the better. Nice stock though.

They are all top drawer dealers. I would rather deal with the 2 that I know.

Jabberwocky, Thank you !!! Feeling better about EDDIE's. Maybe they thought I was just another tire kicker.
Patrick I take back the mean statement !!! Direct/blunt is in fact more accurate. I might say a little scary too.
Definately not a boring guy for sure. No sugar coating from your lips but that's why we all love you.
If this was the ocean we would be the seals and you would be the great white shark, a very necessary part of the eco-system. It's all good my friend.

    Hi,
The thing that baffles me, is after all the banter back and forth over the weekend about all the Gibson's that you bought being bad, why would you buy another Gibson, sight unseen?

    Something is not right here.

    Jab,
I love The stuff that Greg does too.
Sometimes after warming up for an hour, I can play like him and be really free and easy. Once I put the camera on and start recording, I get so nervous that it looks like I 1st started playing guitar last week...
I don't know what it is. Some people have nerves of steel. Not me. I'm a fraidy scared chicken with the camera on.

    I really admire Greg Koch.

I think I already admitted to being a fickle/pickle moron. I think I have clearly stated that I love Gibson guitars. My issue was QC all over the map over the years and my dislike for their current CEO. I do not like my CEO either but still work for him. I have always been a dice roller. Sometimes you win and sometimes it's snake eyes. For $2750 I will roll the dice. For $7k I would not. In my eyes I will either win big or be out some scratch.

So . . . there you have it. I've been exposed for what and who I truly am. I can now shed my efforts to portray a harsh, overbearing and bullying persona. What a relief!! Thanx Jab!!!

$2750, Scratch? I wouldn't mind having your kind of scratch...
Good Luck with your purchase. It should work out fine.

Joe, let me rephrase as I am not rich. I was talking being out some scratch in shipping costs back to EDDIE's or if they won't take it back then off to archtop.com for a 20% commission plus shipping there. I am thinking positive though and I am going to get a great 2 pup 175. I'm just a working stiff that loves to play jazz guitar on the side.

Well if you want another strong opinion, I would have told the guy to F*ck off too. Poeple like that do my head in, if your buying a guitar it shouldn't be out of fear, it should be a pleasant experience that leaves you feeling happy before you'v even got it.

I would be asking about the neck straightness, whether the truss rod could tighten, if the fret nibs had cracked, if there were rattles acoustically, if there was any lacquer checking.

Thats 5 questions even an unreasonable seller, should accept to answer.

People always say, ah well your mint is not my mint blah blah. "Oh thats not damage, the fret nibs being cracked is normal" etc..Pin them down and get the answers. If they wont give them then don't deal.

However I can see the temptation of an under $3000 NOS 175. Good luck, let us know what happens.

I agree with you and Patrick. I got in the questions if the neck was straight and if the trussrod worked. Got stopped on the 3rd question. There was a real nice 2005 175 that was for sale on this site that I was going to buy after the Christmas shipping rush but it got scooped up. I really want a regular 2 pup 175 so I pulled the trigger even though I wasn't comfortable with the deal hense me starting this post about it. I went against my gut feeling being desperate. Hopefully a happy ending. I will say all you guys are great cats. I dig this forum.
