About two years ago someone seriously recommended Fred Kelly's Bumble Bee picks. These are jazz flat picks mounted on a thumb ring. I was skeptical but tried a couple.
They take a bit of adjustment, maybe a few weeks to get comfortable and a bit longer to take full advantage. The first good point is that I never drop a pick anymore. The second is that I have three fingers, not just two, to grab strings.
The down sides to me were small, so I stick with them.
Fred Kelly plays jazz and will talk to you on the phone if you like, at least he did a couple of years ago.
I can pull out a flat pick and use it just as before. I don't think I lost anything getting used to the thumb pick. It takes a little patience getting up the learning curve, that's all.

I ordered a couple of those a few years back. Was listening to a lot of Merle Travis and thought I should add some thumb-picking music to my repertoire. Didn't work out so well, but not due to any defect in these picks. They're nifty and durable.

I've been wanting to try those V Picks for a while. My buddy has tried them and says these Clayton S-stone picks are similar and cheaper.
I've been happy with the 2.0's. I think the green is 2.5 a
nd purple is 3.0 (overkill!). They can be kind of clicky but they slide off the string nicely and it doesn't take too much elbow grease to really dig in with these. I haven't found them in any shops so when I'm not shopping online I'll pick up some 2.0 mm Dunlops either Tortex or gator grip. I've also been trying out the teardrop 206's but I'm not quite used to the shape yet, I usually have to rough them up a little with a file or sandpaper I make them easier to hold onto.Last edited by Bluzac; 03-08-2016 at 03:43 PM. I'm back with Dunlop red Jazz 111's.
A trade off between tone, grippiness ....always buy them at a shop so I can make sure that I don't waste
time and money on the less grippy ones.
The guys with tattoos, beards and body piercings that work in the equivalent to GC look at me like I smell funny .....screw em....
I'll take what I want I'm a bad go getter yeah .....no no that's from a different song.
Crazy about picks....they can make or break my playing.

I've gone through many but settled on good old extra heavy celluloid standard shaped picks. I prefer the ones elderly instruments brands/sells and pick up a pile when I go there every couple months.
-
I like the Red Bear picks,,have 7, I think,,the 'small jazzer' with the left hand bevel, (for 'George Benson' style grip), and also, an old Dunlop Jazz I from the 80's I still have. I have a bunch of different ones. I like the Dunlop Jazz I cuz of the rounded tip,,even the Red Bear is a bit pointed for my taste. Have played with the shoulders of a regular shaped one. I like heavier gauges,,1+ mm. Even Red Bear's Big Jazzer is nice.

'Gravity' mostly these days @ 4mm --less expensive than V and feels a little firmer and darker-good grip!

D'Andrea Pro Plec and Cool Juratex picks.

After tyring out practically everything including semi precious stones - 1.5mm tortex Dunlop standard teardrop pick
-
I've played the Dunlop purple picks since I was a teenager. The standard guitar pick shape like the old Fender heavy
-
I like those Gravity picks as well, I ordered a JHS Little Black Buffer recently and they sent a Gravity pick with the JHS logo on it as a gift. I like it enough that I will probably order a bunch of picks from them.
-
I might try a pro plec. Blue chips are nice, but I am through with spending loads of money on picks and then losing them haha
-
The guy from Gravity used to work for the guy at V-picks and then ended up doing his own thing,
......a little more substance / body to the Gravity but you can feel the similarity between the two.

Lately I use Dunlop 208 pick for electric guitar. It's very comfortable and gives solid sound. Cheers!

I love Timber Tones! I prefer African Ebony: TIMBER TONES - AFRICAN EBONY - INDIVIDUAL PLECTRUM - LUXURY GUITAR PICK
I love the sound and feel. They sound.... ehr.... woody!

After playing with JD Jazz III for most of the 90s and 2000, I went back to my old faithful 73mm JD Nylon USA I was using in the late 80s in my metal phase.
They somehow give me the right amount of snap and flexibility to enhance the thunk on my guitars.

I use Fender Mediums or Fender Big Stubbies 3.0mm.

....as stated above
"I am working on a pick with Igor from John Daw:"
