After a long time seeing 2B, Patrick, and all the others doing the NGD and other Heritage related discussions and waiting patiently for my moment, it has finally arrived. It's my Heritage. The original owner bought it new in Berkley, CA in 2000, at Blue Note music, when he was taking guitar instruction at Berkley. It was a distress sale that made it possible for me. The guy has 3 kids, unemployed, wife's car broken down, hadn't played in years, needed cash, and I came to their rescue. It only required a 8 hours of driving, but what a nice guitar. Hog back, neck, sides, spruce top, ebony fretboard, grover tuners, and the neck PUP.
As soon as I got home, quickly cleaned her up, changed the 2 yr old flat wounds to some fresh TI 13 Bebops, and got what I was waiting for, and much more. The first sounds that came out my wife said sounded sweet and romantic. That was a nice start. My thoughts were warm, rich, and deep. It's a player. Can't believe I waited so long to get a Heritage guitar. Only needs a new Pick Guard which his baby son grabbed and broke one day. It's fixable, but I'm going with a black one, I think.
Oh, and on my way out the door he asked if I wanted to buy his Polytone mini brut IV that he bought new with the guitar for $200. In excellent condition. I did. Never played through one, but now I will.

Great story. Its those kind of deals that make the guitar even better. Working for something an getting a good deal create an instant bond, especially if the guitar is good. I bet you spent most of the journey back, thinking about stopping over to have a quick play.
I would lol

Nice guitar...nice amp. You are in high cotton.
-
Nice. That's my kind of instrument. Not too flashy.
I love the Eagle classic look.
-
nice guitar! Heritages are awesome guitars, second to none (IMHO). I know what your wife meant when she described the tone as sweet and romantic - have many years of fun with this guitar!

Welcome bro....now you're in the know. To the naysayers who refuse to even acknowledge this NGD, because it doesn't say whatever on the headstock...your bias is showing....whatever!
The Hog' rises again! That was worth the drive...glad to hear she found a home....that's one baddddddd Hog!
Looks like she looks much better than the seller photographed!
Congrats!

Not quite sure how I missed this NGD post . . but, congratulations to you Sky!! I'm obviously a bit biased as it relates to Heritage arch tops . . . but, now that you own one, you'll probably understand why. ;-)
The shading on the top, if the camera is showing it accurately, is very unique. I've not seen that on a Heritage archie before . . and I've seen many many many Heritage archies. The Q of the serial number does confirm it to be a 2000 build, so Floyd was alive, healthy and creating some real works of art "upstairs" in the spray room. I'm wondering if he was either experimenting, or made an effort to match a color sample that the original buyer sent to Heritage? If you have a chance to do so, please look at the label inside the F hole and see if there is a color designation noted on it.
The pickup appears to be a Schaller. The Schallers from back during early 1990s through the early 2000s were very soft, understated, but articulate and well balanced. If you look at the underside of the pup with a mirror . . or have an occasion to pull it out for any reason, I'd be curious if there are any model designations on it. If it says "Golden 50" you've got one of the best ever to come out of Schaller. If it say HRW . . . it's one of the hottest and most powerful. . may need some toning down.
Once again, congrats on a real beauty of an arch top.

She's an "SSB" Patrick.
She's lighter than SSB's I've seen in the past...but purdy as heck nonetheless.
I dig this one cuz it's the first 'hog I've seen with a spruce top....typically every HOG I've seen are all HOG, and not with a spruce top, but with a hog top....this is one special archtop...I'm feeling the warmth just from the pic!
-
I've noticed the term 'Hog' used and only just twigged that its Mahogany lol
There is an all mahogany Eagle on ebay in the UK right now. If I'm not derailing the thread, can anyone tell me what an all mahogany eagle sounds like?
I could get it quite cheap but its an really early build.
-
2B said he had one and it was great. Quite cheap, providing it's in good shape, if it were me, I'd snap it up. I'm sure you'll get a response from someone that's had one to your question.
-
Me 2. The plain ebony board is awesome. Swap in black tuners, pickup, tailpiece, and WOW.

Yes theres one here struggling to sell for months. I think I can snag it at a v.g price.

Best go try it, thanks 2b

my experience was none of the above

congratulations

I was going by what I thought Steve mentioned the tag read...Steve can clarify.

Looks to be ASB like my mahogany Eagle.
Welcome to the club!

Ha! I made a post in response to your link to the label not functioning. I must have switched screens too fast and erased it rather than posting it. But, here's what I said;
Either of three things might have happened with your guitar;
1. it was labeled incorrectly
2. somebody up in the spray room really screwed up the color of the shading
3. it was refinished at some point.
I noticed that the back has a far darker color tone at the outer edges . . . more indicative of an SSB. So, maybe just a top refin? Can't tell for sure without seeing it in person. But one thing is for certain, the top is NOT an SSB shading. The three pictures I posted are exactly what an SSB looks like.
Butm it really doesn't matter what the label says. The guitar is a beauty and you're happy with the color. That's really all that matters. Enjoy it for what it is . . not for what the label might say it is.

U may recall that SSB 575 I briefly owned that was very close to the shading on Tim's (gitfid's) 575....nice shading on that GE!

I've been visiting Heritage in K'zoo since 1994 . . . 20 years now. I've represented them as a sales agent for three years. I've never seen that color before. I'm somewhat tempted to send a link to this thread to Rendall, so he could show it to Marv and ask Marv what the color is.
