It's only had one other owner, and he's never had it refinished. It came from heritage that way. I know it's something special, and really like the finish, what ever the hell it's called. It's nice to have some discussion about it, and quite an education from my perspective. I'm going to have Lemuel the luthier make an ebony single bound L5 style pickguard for it. Yeah!

Yes, the shade is very close to the ASB on a former GE, and Eagle Classic

    3. it was refinished at some point.
    So,

Maybe 4. ? It was purposefully done, labeled correctly, and all of this is total B.S? and you guys really have mislabeled guitars and I'm the king?

Maybe 5. ? It was SSB on the back, and sides, and ASB on the top, and when the spray wizard upstairs was asked what to put on the label, said something like "well, it's 2/3rd's SSB, and 1/3 ASB, so it's SSB, kind of like a census question about lineage.

Maybe 6. ? The guy that ordered it, asked them to do it that way, and it's not a F**k up?

I don't really give a rat's a*s. It's very rare, a screaming nice axe that I totally love, and maybe like misprinted postage stamps or coins, is much more valuable if you're into that kind of thing.

But I do really appreciate everyone's input about her. You folks are awesome.

Patrick, Please do. That would be very cool. I'm very curious.

    I've cut and pasted a copy of the guitar and sent it off to rendall at Heritage. I'm curious as all heck to see what he says. Someone suggested it might be an ALSB . . Almond Sun Burst. It's close to that, but still different. Here's my ALSB Golden Eagle;

The plot has just thickened, or, maybe some fog has lifted. When I opened the case to look at the broken pick guard laying inside, I flipped it over to look at the wood grain and low and behold, scribed into it is "SSB very little red" . So, what that means to me, is that Heritage did indeed Not make a mistake on the label, and it is an SSB, but with very little red. It also means, it's a very, very awesome guitar with a great story. It is, it is, it is. Yeah! When I get time and good light, I'll take a pic and post the backside of the pick guard for you.

Thank you Patrick, for your help. And I do look forward to hearing what your buddies at Heritage say. I love the Eagle, my first, and I doubt my last one.

I've not heard back from Rendall, but the notations indicates that it was indeed a special spec and not a standard offering. Not that it matters, other than clearing up curiousity. Because, either way . . the color and the shading are beautiful and expertly applied. So, you've pretty much got a one of a kind GE color. That's pretty cool.

Regarding . . " . . and I doubt my last one." Yeah, they have that effect on ya. ;-)

The shading on the top, if the camera is showing it accurately, is very unique. I've not seen that on a Heritage archie before . . and I've seen many many many Heritage archies. The Q of the serial number does confirm it to be a 2000 build, so Floyd was alive, healthy and creating some real works of art "upstairs" in the spray room. I'm wondering if he was either experimenting, or made an effort to match a color sample that the original buyer sent to Heritage? If you have a chance to do so, please look at the label inside the F hole and see if there is a color designation noted on it.

The pickup appears to be a Schaller. The Schallers from back during early 1990s through the early 2000s were very soft, understated, but articulate and well balanced. If you look at the underside of the pup with a mirror . . or have an occasion to pull it out for any reason, I'd be curious if there are any model designations on it. If it says "Golden 50" you've got one of the best ever to come out of Schaller. If it say HRW . . . it's one of the hottest and most powerful. . may need some toning down.

Once again, congrats on a real beauty of an arch top.
Then, you really should read the rest of the thread, because I haven't seen a discussion on the forum quite like this one over a sunburst. He really gets into it. It's a must read:

He had his curmudgeonous ways, but when he spoke of guitars, people really listened! I miss him too!

I’m glad this got bumped up to the top. I remember seeing the thread but hadn’t read it at the time. Patrick will be missed for many years to come.
