It's not a great website, but I don't think there's anything to doubt about the build quality and a lack of support. I think you're reading into his comments about NOS Octal tubes being a bit noisy - because they are. I'm sure somebody who doesn't really understand that probably complained, not understanding that is part and parcel of those circuits. It just sounded like he doesn't want to deal with a rubes who are complaining about the very nature of the thing he's doing.

If you order a 12" Black Ric, you'll get it. And for under $800 to boot.
Thanks, Jonathan. It's good to hear your perspective... I totally get someone who's decided what he wants to do and what makes him happy.

Did you get the Ric you refer to on your blog? Swing Guitar Blog - Modern Gear for the Vintage*Player

Another one on my list. I'll check it out.

    This is correct!

Thanks everyone for the input so far. Much to think about!

For now, I've decided to back off the GAS. In a few days, I went from looking for a pedal to considering spending lots of money on an amp... I am certain that I will buy something in order to obtain that tonal quality that I am looking for, but for the moment, I'll research every suggestion made here, and I'll try every set up that I already have at home, trying to play with volume and tone, orientation, floor, stand, etc. I also plan to do a big spring clean up soon. I have too many amps, some that I almost never use! I'll probably sell everything that is not absolutely what I want and reinvest the proceeds into what will be exactly what I want.

Thanks again for your help! I'll report any progress back in a few weeks or a couple months.

No, I haven't bought one of the Vintage 47's yet. I will eventually, if for no other reason than those old amp handles are so fragile, and it'd be nice to have something to bang around a bit.

That said, there's a very clean, great sounding 1946 Gibson BR-6 with a new handle and new tubes just sitting at a guitar center here in Gardena. $449 I think. If I didn't already have a BR-6, I'd buy it.

Someone mentioned the Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive.
They also have the Royal Blue Overdrive which is described as "an extremely touch sensitive overdrive".
    Here is a video:
