Common sense prevails. Best not to prolong it. It is not exactly Mayweather-Pacquiao, is it?

Off to the Pantry Car as they're called in India, time to warm up some baby back ribs, maple smoked baked beans and enjoy an ice cold Coke... You smart alecs and nay sayers will have to catch my attention some other time. Really glad you have such good eye sight Jabba (I am jesting).

Talking with George and a few others got me to looking around in my guitar stable and my old digital photo archive. I'm posting a few photos. You tell me what you think:
-
so, nobody answered the question about what they're doing different from eastman. Any demo clips?
-
Photos can be very deceiving given the angles of the camera when the shots were taken. The guitar in the first photo looks fine. But, the second photo . . the one of the guitar with the blister maple rims . . . it appears that the tail of the neck has taken on a dive. It also appears that the 6th string is way high . . perhaps the bridge saddle is not notched deep enough, as I see that the saddle is bottomed out onto the thumb wheels . . which are bottomed out onto the base. It also appears that the finger board binding was replaced towards the end? Was there work done in this area previously?

Anyone else ??
Patrick2 has a very well trained eye. The first photo is one of the very earliest Eastman pro types around. It's a dead copy of a Benedetto Manhattan, right down to the headstock shape. It ran on eBay forever and I finally spotted it doing a search on Archtop Guitar. It is sooooo nice to play.
The second guitar is a 1946 Gibson L7 and yeah I am sure it's had it's share of work done to it over the years. I got it in 2003 or 2004 for my birthday. I had a then relatively unknown builder Steven Holst make me a replica of a ES175 tailpiece in rosewood and ebony. I got the guitar from Buffalo Brothers. I had my tech install the tailpiece and contrary to the photo the action was real sweet and low. It's just the camera angle. And yeah some of the bridge upper and lower portions were shave to accommodate it working on the guitar/action. It's an old George Benson GB10 bridge I got from Gary Brawer who's shop is in back at Real Guitars in San Francisco. When my tech got done with it you could barely slide a piece of paper under the pickup but it played and sounded so sweet I didn't care. It's a beaut. The Eastman prototype I paid $1300.00 for, the pickup is an OLD Benedetto handmade by Kent Armstrong. No honky tone in this honey.
Here's a frontal shot of the L7 at a convalescent home. It was so loud acoustically it was a toss up, do I amp it or just play it unplugged... Yeah it's got a lot of mods IT'S NOT STOCK I can hear some of you nay sayers saying... It's a great old box though.
And the first photo, here's a back shot of the early Eastman Prototype I love sharing. "Boss, The Flames, The Flames"

is it half the price of an eastman? I can get a used 805 for under $1k...
In terms of tone/clips, post some links please!
-
Half the price as new.

Get over it.Last edited by BigMikeinNJ; 05-23-2014 at 12:53 PM.

price is price. The value of a piece such as a guitar is best expressed as its residual market value. It's not like a car or house that actually wears out and gets worse as it ages.

Stay safe buying an overpriced not so well made Gibson. Buying from overseas is really easy, you just gotta try it once and you'll see.

not very useful for electric guitar comparison, mike. The acoustic sound of the instrument is being picked up too much so it's impossible to tell what it sounds like through an amp.
I want to hear it played with a pick.
-
Surely you are astute enough to know that the only fair comparison is new-to-new or used-to-used, not new-to-used. Do you have some axe to grind here or what?

Personally, for plugged in tone, I'm thinking more and more I don't care for a guitar with a big acoustic voice, but that's just me.

Yikes. Apparently, this is not really a discussion group. I have heard from several other folks that they have received harassing and threatening messages when saying anything even remotely critical about these instruments. This place is becoming more and more like the gear page where if you say anything negative about something, folks start piling on and discrediting you or worse. IS THIS A DISCUSSION THREAD or is this a marketing thread???

You'd have to be crazy to pay $2k for a new eastman if they are going for $1k or less used.Last edited by jzucker; 05-23-2014 at 01:37 PM.

I've owned and played a few Mr Zucker, I know what tone and feel pleases me.

I'm asking if there are clips of these guitars played through an amp so *I* can get a feel for what they sound like. Why is that such a big deal? Nevermind. There is something going on in this thread beyond just a discussion of a specific instrument. Carry on with your bad self.

Ahhhh . . . sometimes I pine for the good old days . . when the only requirements for choosing an electric guitar, were that it had all six strings on it, it would stay in tune at least through the end of the song . . and that it didn't make too much static noise when you plugged into an old Fender amp and rolled all the knobs to 10.
Now-a-days people look for differences barely discernable to the human ear and want to achieve tonal nirvana for under $1,000.
Who can decipher this acronym . . . JPTFT . . ?

Hey all....thanks for all the input. As I said before I looked to this forum for both the good and the bad of this purchase. I have expressed some thoughts to Lora about all that you guys have said and am still confident with her and the Yolandateam Luthiers that this will be a great decision. I will let you guys know when I receive the guitar with comments and pictures. Again thanks for ALL the comments here...I would expect nothing less.
