extra bonus points if something can pull of the same trick in front of a vox.

the rack eleven is cheaper than the axe/kemper stuff and the line 6 rack is cheaper still. not tried either, but i suppose they'd be worth a looksee.
The jc77 is not the best platform for these pedals because it is not a flat amp... an RC booster (being a flat pedal with the bass and treble at 5) might work best on that kind of platform.

The 11R is sure great but heavy and big... the Studio Devil promises a lot!!

Many thanks for very informative replies, a Clean Ethos pedal sounds interesting, so it might be worth waiting for the reviews.

I know it's not a modeller, but I'll definitely try the Zendrive that's been recommended or the equivalent Zendrive clone here in the UK.

I might also give one those inexpensive Chinese Joyo American pedals a try out.

    Thanks again

I love my Joyo AS !!

One may laugh with commiseration, and i am sure that i would get expensive gear if i could, but since i am on a budget and in a relatively remote place where it is not possible to demo an Ethos or AxeFX or a nice Jazz Amp, this little all analog inexpensive wonder really saves me !
It seems indeed, as mentioned above, that analog still is a better option with inexpensive gear.
Sounds much better than my Zoom G3 amp sims and is much lighter and cheaper than a used blackface twin, which i could find here.

In this video, i sincerely prefer the Joyo pedal.

Say my hearing is as subtle as a pig's groin, but this with my EV ZLX15P powered speaker i am fully happy
No hype on powered speaker and modeling rig, just trying to sound good on a budget and with portability.

I like "B" in the video best, I have a Blackface Deluxe Reverb, so it'll be interesting when I get the Joyo pedal.

I prefer A because it sounds a bit fatter to me.
It seems like B has more trebles in it. It might be that he could have tweaked a little more
to compensate this. Also, is A a bit louder ?
    Anyway, nice un-scientific comparison.
Whichever is the real amp, it is pretty close, especially for a $40 pedal.

This comment on the video page:
"Though really a Deluxe shines when cranked up a little bit more to where it has touch sensitive power tube distortion which is what pedals and digital modeling has the most trouble emulating. I think that the differences between the two would have been more obvious if the deluxe was turned up a little bit louder, say, to the the volume it would be at to complete with a drummer at a small club gig. joyo pedals are cheap knockoffs of american designs. That particular clone was stolen from the tech21 blonde. I have heard clips of the tech 21 that sounded pretty good. Perhaps better than the barbeq but i'm not sure how good they work for clean nor whether the eq is as good as the barbeq

I was recently considering getting the Joyo American Sound to maybe make my AER alpha more usable with an archtop and electrics. Any thoughts?

was unaware. already using an rc booster in front and was hoping there was a more expensive and less effective solution out there. guess that goes double for the vox, then. will nothing fender my amps? not that i even need it, but its a fun idea to have an "instant jazz/fender" box on the pedal board.

I believe the jc 77 already has a fender type preamp... but the speaker can probably be improved!

No, not true. The JC is super bright. Nothing like a fender amp IMO. Also, the amp is very hissy and they deliberately use speakers with no high freq content. I once switched the speakers in my JC amp to EV and the amp became a bright, hissy mess.

And I agree with RichB. That clip sounded horrible.
