I seem to recall owning an Evans with an 8" back in the day but don't remember the particulars. I think I sold it when I got on an MB200 kick for awhile, before my current RE200. I'm not sure I'd place Evans in the 'bedroom amp' category - they're too expensive for one thing. I do, however have mine hooked up in the bedroom but usually use a Quilter 101R with an Ear Candy Mr. Watts clone that I built and even that can be too loud.

If you don't mind buying pre-owned, A quick check on Reverb shows several Evans amps in the $450-800 range. The model numbers can be a bit confusing, but JE usually stands for Jazz enclosure and has a 12" speaker. SE means Steel Enclosure and has a 15".
Pre-owned is a pretty good way to go as these amps have rarely lived a tough life. Keep in mind these are high powered amps and will just be at idle at most bedroom levels.

If you are considering new, $1500 or so will get you the latest RE300.
The only complaint I would have with my JE200 is the weight at 37lbs. The RE series is about 25lbs. Either way, as I mentioned Scot the owner is a great guy and supports new or used products. Give him a call.

Also a 335 though just about any Evans amp would be a heavenly pair up. Possibly one of the reasons Evans amps are not as popular is, as Skip mentioned, understanding the pre-amp controls. It's been jokingly said that Evans is the the Mesa-Boogie of SS amps, and there is some truth to that. It can take a bit of knob tweeking to get "your" sound and some guys dismiss the amp without understanding how it functions.

This is probably an errant understanding due to forum "trash" i've read but is it accurate that a solid state amp will not pair well with an effects loop - ie. tuner, tube screamer, wah pedal, simple analog delay and volume pedal.... Should I not consider those a good pair with a solid state amp, and opt for a small tube amp to be able to use an effects loop or is that inaccurate?

I've looked around on reverb and yes I do see some very reasonably priced evans amps want to make sure solid state is a good fit first. I have no experience with solid state amps. I've always played through a blues junior, 1964 Twin Reverb or a vox ac30 which I got rid of years ago. No experience with solid state but not against it at all.... your opinion as to comparison would be appreciated.

Further, any experience with the raezor's edge combo amps? Comparisons to Evans?
