Agree with everything John A. said about the DR (DRRI). That's a great amp for most stage situations. Not all surely, and very much depends on genre/venue and how loud your group customarily plays. It can actually be too loud for a lot of gigs. With no MV, not much you can do to adjust.

And I'm with Jorge on the next step up amp. A Vibrolux Reverb type, only with MV. Mine is the Allen Encore. The Gries 35 would do just as well. I've always wanted to try one. Both of these newer amps remind me much of the old VR, meaning they are still in the blackface camp tonally but are very warm, have excellent overdrive sound too. The MV on my encore makes that amp very versatile at medium and lower volumes. Maybe you can find one used in your budget, but probably not.

The BD is a cool amp too. But on the heavy side. And only the clean channel had value to me.

    What is an MV?

Forgot to add Master Volume and Fx Loop. I don't think the Gries has but it should be easy to add... I would also check it comes with higher value mid pot, like 25k. I personally think the stock blackface design has a lot to be improved as these modern builders prove

I saw it. He used to pull it around on one of those little folding handcarts.

Apparently Lorne Lofsky still uses his old orange Cube, but had it rehoused, as the old enclosure was falling apart.

MV = master volume. Jorge: the Gries 35 does have MV. I own a Gries 20, the first one David Gries built. Which is one big reason I'm so keen on trying the 35. The 20 became an instant favorite. Best in-amp reverb I've heard yet, plus that very effect master volume. I get compliments on the sound at every gig cause of that amp. (It's not me, believe it.)

Hi MD, my writing was not very clear, sorry. I was talking about the fx loop... the Gries does not have one does it? I knew about the MV, it works quite well i have heard. Also heard great compliments on the reverb.. Would love to try one one day! Enjoy yours

I am pretty much in the same situation as the OP. Lessons, rehearsals, gigs with a drummer. But my drummer is quiet I love my SFPrinceton Reverb with my Tele and my archtop. Does it all. Mic it if I need more volume somewhere...but we don't hardly ever get that loud. Recently, I couldn't pass up on an old Peavey Bandit for $40!....I had started wondering if I should save my tubes my not giving lessons on the Princeton. So now I've got two decent amps! I say PR all the way.

+1 for hot rod deluxe, especially with Cannabis Rex speaker.

Also has preamp in/outs, handy for any digital interfaces.
