My first all Maple archtop. This completes the trio tryout consisting of a Monarch, Imperial, and now Cremona.
Reports were the Cremona was known for its warmth, sustain, possessing the bell like clarity of a spruce top. Reports R Right. After the install of a set of Thomastik Bebop 13's the Cremona displayed surprising acoustic volume. The humbucker is so warm, and the electric tone bonafide jazzmo...this is one warm and friendly archtop.
Highly recm'd!

I love the look of these and if I ever purchased a Peerless, that would be the exact guitar I'd go for.
As an owner of an all solid maple archtop, I'm surprised to hear of the acoustic volume...my Heritage has a small but pleasant acoustic voice...plugged in is where it really shines...I imagine this guitar sounds great plugged in too.

Beautiful guitar man! I'm going to have to try an all maple. I'm on the hunt right now.

2Born,
Looks great--the videos I've heard sound real nice too (I'm a sucker for archtops with built-in humbuckers). I've never (in person) seen or played a Peerless. I presume the action and play-ability are quite good. I know I can't complain about the photos and videos I've seen. The only thing I can think of that's better than NGD, would be to have Pippa Middleton walk up to me and tell me I'm awesome! Jeff

Yes, I've owned the 575 too. They're voiced differently than the Cremona. Each fabulous in their own way. 17" vs 16" is a game changer volume wise.

Yes, electrically the guitar is a gem. The humbucker is styled right out of the 57 Classic genre. U'd think it was a Gibson.
So, last nite I was rackin' my brain about, why even though I'd previously never seen or played a Cremona in person it seemed very, very familiar. And of course it's buggin' me into a sleepless night...hey what can I say, when you've had 70 some archtops pass through your door in less than 3 years it's a lot of familiarity to keep track of.
And finally, at 3' in the morning there's that VOILA moment!
My first dual guitar entry into archtop kingdom, read disease, was a pair of 80's Japan made Yamaha AE1200S archtops. Many don't know those guitars, which is a pity, because they're very well built, versatile, and superb players. They've ebony to die for...old school black ebony that feels like silk. And although the poly seemed a bit heavy the finish didn't deter from the guitars merits. They're slowly becoming a hard find, and I feel fortunate to have owned 4 of them. Yes, when you find something that's good 4 is always better than 1.
Anyways, this Cremona has a feel, fit and finish, equivalent to a modern day AE1200S, albeit with a different voicing...having a carved maple, instead of a laminate spruce top, clearly the Cremona has more acoustic punch. But the fit, finish, and playability is every bit as good as those now classic Yamaha's, which by the way were not "lawsuit" guitars, even though every time I've seen one posted for sell the sellers refer to them as such.
If you ever find an AE1200S....don't hesitate to pull that trigger...thank 2b later!

"hey what can I say, when you've had 70 some archtops pass through your door in less than 3 years"

2Bop,
I thought you played TI Swings, the Bebops will enhance the acoustic properties no doubt.
I recently played a new Cremona and JazzCity in a shop near WDC, I preferred the Cremona however the JazzCity had a louder acoustic voice. IMHO, the Cremona's nail the WesMo tone.

Hey ESCC! Nope, I've never sampled the TI Swings. I've owned many a pair of TI GB's, and recently saw a pair of these TI Bebop's on feebay for $28 for 2 sets, so thought it was time to sample them...that's only $4 more than what I pay for a single set of GB's.

Hey 2B, Congrats on the new Cremona as well as the plug for the Yamaha AE1200S! I'm very pleased with my 1200S, as you can tell by my avatar. Just one question, did you mean "laminated spruce top"? I believe the AE has a solid spruce top, hence the "S" in 1200S. As always, I love reading about your guitar and amp adventures on the forum. Happy playing! -- Joe

2Bop,
I believe Swings and GBs are the same TI flat strings, but the sets are comprised of different gauges(?).
Yes both guitars were new, I believe the Cremona was in the $2,200-$2,400 range, it was Plek'd, it was pretty, it wasn't loud.
-
Maybe a TI Swing and GB user can verify...I've only used the GB's.

also, my frame of "loud" reference is perhaps twisted from others, as I NEVER use a pick...it's thumb or finger style only for this kid.

Hey Joe, wassup!

I thought the S in 1200S meant a solid top too...until I took one of mine down to my trusted luthier for a pickup swap, and he informed me, after pulling the pup he determined the top was laminated. So, obviously I felt confused, to put it lightly.
My last two, a sunburst, and a natural, went to LA. Another sunburst went to, of all places, Switzerland. I miss the blonde most of all...I loved that beefy ebony bridge...the blonde was the only one I received that came with both the factory ebony and TOM bridge.
How's that Headstrong amp working for you...did you get it dialed in with those TAD low noise 7025's?Last edited by 2bornot2bop; 09-25-2013 at 05:57 PM.

maybe you have some audio samples of cremona with your setup? just curious...

I'm an old fart...I don't even have a pick. One of these daze I'd like to learn to create a recording via my iMac.

Small world... I can't believe I lifted a picture of your AE1200S off the web. Do I owe you royalties? As soon as my new pick guard arrives (the original was starting to show signs of "nitro rot"), I will update my avatar. My AE did not come with an ebony bridge. Would I be correct to assume that the ebony bridge has a warmer, mellower tone? Let me know if you come across one. I'm really enjoying the Headstrong amp with the new TAD 7025s. But still trying to dial in that magic tone... starting to think I might be the problem...
Cheers, Joe

No royalties. Any pic on the web is fair game. Surprised you didn't catch it in the pics I posted. I took each of those pics.
