    >>> So where I am going to get an amazing new pickguard made?

Gee Mike, it sounded to me like Archtop13 was offering to make one.

If you absolutely can not get it done, I'll make it for you. But really, it would be nice to see a European-based solution to this.

    Thanks a lot, Chris.

I've sent him an email and PM, still haven't gotten any response. Of course, I will let you know. Thank you so much again!!

Antonio is awesome to work with and can build you anything you can draw within reason. Give him an email or a ring and let him know what you are looking for.

He made a bunch of parts for my Gretsch G100CE(at the bottom of the page) and he worked very well with my luthier and together they created some really great custom parts that function well and reasonable in price.

ok, me and Antonio, are really close on giving the final go.

The only question, I got now, I want to mount the pickguard on the neck pickup ring, how am I going to do it? Unfortunately, Antonio ain't helping me out with the pickup ring mounting, I mean, aren't all the pickup rings the same? How am I going to do it when I am a complete noob?

    >>> I want to mount the pickguard on the neck pickup ring, how am I going to do it?

The best way depends on the PU bezel height vs. your preferred PG height, AND the angle of the PU bezel vs. your preferred PG angle in two axes.

    >>> Unfortunately, Antonio ain't helping me out with the pickup ring mounting,

"ain't"? Did Antonio actually say, "I'm-a ain't no-how gonna help ya. No sireee Bob!"

    >>> I mean, aren't all the pickup rings the same?

They are a standard size, but the thrill is getting the PG to sit at the height you want, parallel to the length of the strings, then positioned how you prefer in the horizontal axis.

Cutting away at the bottom of the PG to make all this work is not that hard, but you do need to sort of know what you are doing. I use a little router setup with a Dremel tool.

Or rather, "Yeeee-hah, I just cut away that bad boy with this-here doo-hikee. Ain't no pickguard gonna make no son a'-mah Daddy say 'uncle'!"

    Or something like that.

    >>> How am I going to do it when I am a complete noob?

Mike, your chosen PG mounting method is by far the most secure way to do the job. It is, however, also tied for the most demanding in terms of careful measurement and cutting.

(And sorry about the whole "ain't" thing. I am sure my attempt at 1963 colloquial Greek would sound pretty awful.)

Chris, if I do this all myself, I am just going to destroy stuff. No, he didn't refuse to help me out, he just can't do it without the guitar in his hands to do it. We are going with a template I made and of course, he doesn't want to risk it and make something that might not be 100% accurate. I guess, the best way to do it, is either to find someone around here, or someone that has worked with the same guitar I got or make super accurate measurements.

So what should I do? I ain't trying stuff like cutting, etc. I am going to destroy it instead of create it.

Mike you need to find a luthier in Athens! There must be one...

    >>> he just can't do it without the guitar in his hands to do it.

That is probably because he knows what he is doing.

The original is cut around the PU bezels. So to mount ON the bezels, you need to first shorten the bezels by maybe 2mm (or use shorter bezels), then undercut the new PG so that it sits nicely on top of the two bezels.

Anyone doing this by post is either amazing, or amazingly mis-guided.

    >>> So what should I do?

Plenty of lifestyle choices (and I am way past the reasonable scope of the thread I think):

    - Play the guitar as built; it is a fine guitar.
    - Go to ebony using the same mounting as already exists. So you send the PG to the luthier, and he copies the mounting and PU cutouts. But now you have a different concept vs. your ideal.

    - And by the way, with this new aesthetic (mounted on the bezels), what would you do with the bracket and the hole(s) in the side for the bracket?

    My deeply inconvenient suggestion:

Seriously consider the character-building opportunity to accept that the circumstances do not add up to making this rather specific and demanding aesthetic change happen.

    Hey, you asked.

Really, play this terrific guitar and love the stock PG - it will love you back (but no public ass-grab please).
