I love my new Strymon Flint, over my HoF. Much easier to adjust, and it sounds immediately great. Never totally satisfied with the HoF.

And the tremolo is much more than a bonus !!! This pedal doesn't know how to sound bad !!!

How come you chose the Flint over the Blue Sky? Are there differences between the two pedals when it comes to their reverb sounds, or is the Flint a Blue Sky+bonus features?

I wanted a simple pedal to adjust. Easy to use and great sounding. The Flint does perfectly the deal.

In more details, I wanted a great spring reverb and also a great warm studio/rack quality reverb. I don't need more presets actually. And the Flint has basically these two presets. I am less convinced by the third preset, which is a plate reverb. Maybe because I don't like plate reverb !!!

The BlueSky is more specialized, with more possibilities and adjustments. I am sure it's a great pedal too. I didn't try one by the way. Basically, it's too much for my need. The Flint just gives me what I want and so well. However it's not a basic pedal, and you have more than enough possibilities to tweak your sound (some secondary features are actually hidden)

The tremolo possibility was more interesting to me. I add a touch of it, with very low speed. The harmonica tremolo preset is just amazing. It makes the sound more lively. With my setting, you can't really notice the tremolo when you play the song, but just at the end, on the last chord... Wao !!!

I have also the ELCapistan delay... Such a great delay. Same, you just add a touch of it, it doesn't disturb your playing and the effect just appears magically at the end of your lines...

With these two, I am perfectly happy. I have the TC HoF and Flashback delay, and they are great pedals and even funny with the TonePrint system that you can use with your iPhone, but the Strymon are on an upper class, according to me.

As the Flint is a double pedal, with two great effects very usable, yes the price is also in the upper class, but it can be justified.

Get smomthing second hand off eBay? You need a nice reverb / digital delay mix so you get some of that slapback echo like an echoplex. Getting that sound isn't hard, but getting it without a load of hiss is the problem.

The TC Electronics stuff is very good - but pricey. Have you thought of getting something from ten years ago like a J Station, or a DG Stomp. Pick them up on ebay for about £60 when they were £250 new! Look for a 24 bit capability and loads of headroom DBs in the specs.

Hi, I've had a number of these pedals I guess and the ones that stuck is:

    Dr. Scientist Radical Red Reverberator
    Strymon Blue Sky
    Strymon Flint

I think I'm going to keep 1, the Flint.

Funny isn't it? Over time you focus down on a few things that work and sell off the rest.

Ray Flacke got right down to an old Lab Series Gibson Valve amp and a favourite Telecaster.

I'm down to a Deluxe, and a pair of Yamaha DS60 powered speakers - then a DG Stomp just to create a basic good sound for the DS60s. Then for all the other styles I get asked to play I have a CE2, a MXR Distortion+, and a Keeley Mod DS1. I suppose each one of those could be bought for £60 or so. Job done. I really cannot see me ever needing anything else - ever! And that runs from Jazz through to Fusion, Rock and Country!
