Never tried it, but they get very good reviews. Likely the sound is to die for - but the weight (67 pounds) would kill me.

    They're 67 pounds of love?

    you know?

This is coincidental and gushing in its praise: Maybe the ultimate amp for ES and L-type guitars - Gibson Guitar Board . It is not a critical review but more a paean of love. Yes, I read it on the web.

According to the manual, it's 67 pounds of whatever it is (67 pounds of amp will not be love for me ).

I always got curious with this amp because Paul went with EL34 when most fender tube amps for jazz are 6l6... I bet it sounds great! I wish it was head and cab because I've become a huge fan of closed back cabs.

I had a Rivera R55-112 for many years. Possibly the best and most versatile amp I ever owned. Built like a tank too. Unfortunately, it weighed 47 lbs. I know that's not excessively heavy, but I no longer need that much volume capability and I'm just not interested in lugging heavy stuff around anymore.

I've got a chubster 55, it's the same amp just with a different cab/speaker. It sounds nice. Set all the controls to 5 and pull out the mid shift and you're in twin territory. They're good amps, it wasn't my dream amp as I really wanted a twin reverb but it's a good compromise.

Do you think that twin reverb it's better than suprema?

Would like to hear it. Particularly curious about the 15" speaker and choice of a different set of valves. Still, likely won't ever replace my Rivera era Fender Concert with a 2X12 closed cab extension. Weighs a ton but it stays at home.

    Fender?
What's kind of it, do you think it's usually better for the jazz?

Fender has made a great many models over the years. There was a period of time in the mid 1980's when Rivera was marketing director at Fender. With his influence they produced a particularly nice line of amps to compete with the likes of Mesa Boogie. However, there are a lot of Fender models and variations. Depending on what you would like your amplifier to do, some of these are great, some not so much.Given the size and history of Fender and their place in the amplifier marketplace, they can't really be ignored as you search for what works best for you.

I have one. Love it! I got it from Guitars n Jazz. When asking about it before purchase, I inquired if it had wheels. "It doesn't need wheels. It's not heavy" was the answer. Not true. But great amp. I doubt if I'll ever use another. It is much more versatile and better sounding than my Fender Super 60 which supposedly was a Rivera.

Hello Bill.. I'm far from an authority on Fender amps. Probably more like the opposite end of the spectrum. However, I thought Rivera did the 'II' series (Twin II, Deluxe Reverb II, et al) of blackface amps with a few others like the Concert and Superchamp thrown in. I was thinking the red knob models like the Super 60 were a bit different.

Still, I'm sure your current amp would beat out any of these as it benefits from better design tools and an additional 30 years of amp design and manufacturing experience. Do you think it's more the amp or more the Jensen 15" speaker or the combination? I've thought of trying out a 15" extension box. Wish I could play one of the Riveras but somehow I don't think I'll be encountering any here in New Mexico.

Never played the Suprema Jazz 1x15, but I love Rivera amps. Have owned a m100, and played a R55 and a Knucklehead. While the Knucklehead really wasn't my thing tonally, all 3 were fantastic, high quality, versatile, and built to withstand a nuclear blast. All were also fairly heavy as noted. But really, really well built amps.

Really? I thought they voiced the amp specifically to archtop guitars...

Some people say that thenFender Super 60 was Rivera designed but I think many others say it was not. It's a very nice amp and a great value but, as said, does not compare to the Suprema Jazz 15.

I've never tried the Suprema Jazz with the smaller speaker so I can't say if the size of the speaker makes an important difference. I would guess you would really want the 15" if you play a 7-string instrument. I don't. But I do very much like the sound of this amp across the pitch range.

The manual says the R55, Chubster 55 and Jazz Suprema 55 are all the same amp, just different cabinets and speakers.

Actually, I just double checked the manual as I was going from memory. The Suprema 55 is the same amp, but that is a different amp to the Jazz Suprema.

    Apologies.

Thanks for that Gabe. I did had the idea they had changed the voicing of the amp not just the cab / speaker.

    Howdy,

About a year and a half ago, Rivera stared making a lighter 1x12 specifically for archtops. I bought what I believe was the third or fourth one they produced. It has a very sweet and pure tone, and sounds much like my freind's '65 Deluxe Reverb. In fact, I think Paul designed it with the Deluxe in mind, though using EL34s instead of the 6V6 to gain more headroom.

And yes it is a lot lighter than the 1x15 and 55s, which sounds more like rock amps to me.

I think this NC store may still have exclusive distribution:

Does anyone know what the weight is of the new Suprema 1x12? They don't mention it on their website.

A few hours ago, I posted a short description of the Rivera 1x12 I purchased a year ago. I don't see it on the site, but received an e-mail notifying me of a response . . .

    Go figure.

In any case, Abadon2005, I'd be happy to weigh my 1x12 when I get home tonight.
