It's certainly not a solution for everyone, but the pain of boring tone is worse than the discomfort of regular exercise, for me. Thankfully, technology will continue to improve, something we can all look forward to.

So.. schlepping 65 pounds of square bulkiness without a decent handle over hill and dale isn't for everyone? Certainly agree with that. We have all done this. An overwhelming majority won't do it again. While I don't think a Fender Twin is anything like the ultimate jazz amp, if it were, I still wouldn't do carry one around. There is a line for everyone between how much effort goes into complexity, transport, and cost versus the quality of the sound they're looking for. I love great gear as much as anyone in this forum, but I also subscribe to concept of diminishing returns.

Also, how much does your gear define your music? If you show up with Cube 40 will you not sound like you?

(hmm.. sounds argumentative. Not intended. For some, doing what it takes to get the sound you want is paramount. For others it's a question of balance. I'm in the latter camp.)

I certainly am not making the argument for anyone but myself to carry the Twin around. :-) I have the privilege of not playing for a living anymore, so making decisions with regards to what I would like to sound like in any given situation is really one of options, rather than necessities. I have lighter tube amps available as well (Allen Old Flame and Vintage Sound Jazz 35) but they don't sound the same, do they? I also have a Cube 80X and ZT Club, but those are completely uninspiring to me and are pretty well unused around my house.

And of course, I will sound like me, no matter what I play thru for the most part. And no one else will really care either, as we all know. But, good tone is inspiring and average or bad tone is not. So, I usually have much more fun playing when I sound the way I would prefer, with complete understanding that I maybe the only one that cares.

I don't think you sound argumentative, at all :-) these are the questions that drive us to make better decisions about our playing. It's all relative with regards to the compromises we are allowed to make because of time, expertise, finances and experience. I can't argue for anyone else's choices here but mine. But, if you get excited about playing through a Twin whenever possible, I got your back!

I have a Henriksen, I have used it more for duet gigs with a singer and it works perfect in small places. always I use an amp wade with it.

Also the AER is great, my teacher Craig Wagner in Louisville KY, Has one , smaller than the henriksen.

I try to to take my Twin Reverb whenever I can (unfortunately I am one of those players whose quality of playing is dependent of the amp I use), but sometimes it just isn't practical or even possible. I played a lot of transistor amps, and have now two that inspire me like the Twin does:
    - an AER Alpha with Joyo American Sound Pedal in front of it
    - my Award Session BluesBaby22

anyone here use one for playing out at volume ?
FWIW I have the 40 from cpl yrs back (before the front of them have "CUBE" on it).

Nice little amp, but for me I would not say it is great.. for my guitar the sound is ok, but not superb (could be a pickup problem which I am looking into). Little hard to dial in desired tone, either seems too bright, or too boomy.

Has worked fine on small stages, where can be mic'ed (my version does not have line out), but by itself, twice it has failed to be loud enough at gigs in a room with alot of people milling about talking. Had it cranked way up, sitting right in front and still could barely hear myself.

If you wanna go Cube, I would suggest a 60 at least.
